Summary
A troubled past, a magical future, and a whole lot of adventure!
Raised in the slums and alleys of Helsin, Argo is tired of lurking. He is exhausted of living meal to meal and tries to elevate himself to a better life. The Rumi Guild he plans to depart, well, they decide the bury him instead of letting him escape their grip. Argo sees the trap coming, avoids the clutches of fate, and runs from everything he's ever known.
While on the trip across the desert to the fabled forests of Larjoon, fortune favors Argo. He becomes something more than he ever anticipated. As a new wizard traveling through an unknown realm, he eagerly becomes a Mercenary Wizard.

Ok now I'm hooked
Went on this book for something to kill time. But I kept getting into the story and couldn't wait to get further along in the story. It turned into a great story. The MC isn't a wimp but also not a hard a$$. A really solid character and I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Great narration, enjoyable story.
I had not encountered this narrator before and he was excellent, clear with the right level of inflection. The narration did the story proud.
The story was of a poor guy getting a lucky break, but not forgetting the hard lessons learnt when things were tough. Not a hero, not a villain, just doing the best he can while bringing the listener along for an enjoyable spin.
I have already got book 2 and intend to jump straight into it, while hoping the next book is already in the wings.

A Very Good start
Probably one of my favourite starts to a series from this author as the story/plot along with the narrators were a nice combination that fit very well together.

Fun, awesome and full of action!
Awesome story, an odyssey in an out of itself. This is a free copy I received for an honest review, and honestly I loved th story. It really is a hero ballad, a man that rises from the lowest, a hero that comes from the unexpected, and that is a little gray in it's actions. We have a good soul but one that doesn't really want to be a hero, but nonetheless ends up as one. And the narration of this book is spotless, awesome really, we can really relate with our MC through. I definitely recommend it.

Janitor becomes a data scientists
Dislike: its like “A janitor becomes a super data scientists just because he saw someone on an AI webinar”
Like: until he becomes a super lucky mage

love the date descriptions for each chapter
I have been avoiding sword and sorcery books on this site for a while. I have been struggling to find a book that would connect with me. while this book has some "cultivation" aspects to it ... they are minor. Han got me to listen to a sword and sorcery book and I am grateful.
What kept me listening to the book was how much I ended up liking the MC. at first glance I didn't like him but the way he got along with kids and animals was fascinating. He kept doing unexpected things which I really appreciated. this book gave me spectacular character development which I've been missing for some time.
I will be looking out for the rest of this series (thank you cliff hanger) and look forward to more adventures with the mercenary Wizzard.
I like the two-person narration team and the voice of the "demon elf" was nice -very morgan freeman -y (highest accolades)
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

very strong start, excited for more
A bit short but makes up for quality, the VAs (uses multiple which is very welcome) are great, kept me interested throughout.
The protag is likeable, basically a rogue with a soft side which more often than not lands him the short end of the stick in some situations.
I will continue the series and look forward to it.

quick to start and a very interesting magic system
this book took no time in gaining my interest as the basics of the world, character and their motivations were established quickly but still felt unrushed. I was enjoying it after chapter 1 and hooked after chapter 2.
The magic system is really interesting and although I initially thought it could be quite limiting I suspect there will be a revelation down the line which will open it up and make it more nuanced and captivating.
this is an original story and for anyone who enjoys fantasy and magic it will not be a waste of time or credit.
note - the amount of progression so far is limited and the character does seem a little OP with out it being clear why as of yet.
hope you enjoy.
