About this listen

Megan Dunn arrives in Seaside, Oregon a broken woman with a dream: open a B&B like she planned to do with her husband, Cass, whose life was tragically cut short five years ago. But the old Victorian she bought needs extensive renovations and the one man who can help her—Theo Valentine—takes an immediate and intense dislike to her.

Left scarred and unable to talk after a terrible accident, the reclusive Theo is a brilliant contractor whose plans to renovate the building Megan bought are eerily similar to her own. As their paths cross again and again and Megan begins to see the man beneath the mystery, a part of her that she thought was lost forever slowly starts to reawaken.

But when she discovers unsettling similarities between Theo and her late husband and strange coincidences begin to mount, Megan is forced to confront everything she believed about her past and decide how far she’ll go to get the truth…and if she’s ready for what she’ll find when she does.

Critic reviews

"Crackling with tension, bursting with emotion and laced with an intangible magic, this is the kind of love story you hope to find, the kind that lingers long after the final page." ~ Vilma's Book Blog

I read the book last year, it’s one of my favourites. JT is an amazing story teller and has just the right amount of sass, comedy and hotness in her writing.

Troy and Tara really do it justice - they always do - very talented. I feel like I could listen to it again

Fabulous

This is a beautiful love story with an intriguing story line that kept me gripped to the very end. Excellent narration and acting from all players.

while both narrator's give an outstanding performance it needs to be said that Tara Langella gives a truly exceptional performance. the book is told from the FC point of view, however all the male speaking parts are performed by the talented Troy Duran including the epilogue which is from the MC point of view.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book but would have loved more from Theo's view point and his feelings on unpacking what was happening to him. I loved Megan's quick retort, snark and her ability to see through the bull and tell it like it is.

outstanding performance

I bought this book before when it had a single female narrator. The re-telling with duet narration, including my favourite male narrator Troy Duran, made the story even more enjoyable. I also preferred the female narrator in this version.
So now I know why this book was re-issued, but why has the Queens and Monsters series been re-issued? There are no changes to the narrators or story as far as I can tell. It’s a series that I like to listen to over and over again, but now a credit is required to listen. I refuse to buy again, unless there’s something different or extra from the original. Would anyone care to enlighten us? I say us, as I’m sure there are other fans out there wondering the same thing. Do I have to join a JTG fan club or something for answers?

Fab Duet Narration Improvement.

This is a romance which is powerful but not saccharine or overloaded with sex. It is a mystery told from her perspective but with a wonderful epilogue which flips that and rounds the story off so beautifully. There are strong supporting characters written in a way that made me care. The narrators are excellent, I was lost in the town of Seaside with the people they brought to life so vividly. The story contains a character who is grieving (the writing contains powerful emotional description so take care if that might affect you), but the ending left me warm and smiling.

Wonderful love story

The relationship didn’t flesh out as much as the intensity of the plot gave room for it. Not a plot I was super thrilled or enticed by either. Slow burn and spice was minimal.

Great performance, plot was a bit meh.

There's definitely a lot to like about the story but it gets a bit lackluster by the last couple of hours.
Some of the sassiness of the main female character gets a bit boring after a while as you predict what she's going to say. Aside from a few gripes it's still worth a read (or listen).

Enjoyable but runs out of steam by the end.

I’m torn. I wanted to like it. I really did. But if it had been my first JTG novel, I’m not sure whether I’d be back for more. Hard to say why without giving away spoilers so I’ll stop here!

Really not sure about this one
