I took up martial arts many years ago to try to overcome my fears and become this person who was afraid of nothing. I became a bouncer to see if it worked. I never stopped being afraid, but I did learn a lot about life and myself.

Yes, there is violence in this audiobook. Violence unfortunately goes with the job, but there is also beauty, humor, camaraderie, friendship, and much more.

People who run toward while everyone else is running away. People who will save your kids from themselves while they get so wasted on drinks and drugs that they can’t remember their own name. I have worked almost every role from bouncer to bodyguard. I have stood on the door of pubs and clubs, gone undercover at festivals, looked after royalty, and everything in between. I hold multiple black belts. I am a world-champion gold, silver, and bronze medalist and have been inducted into the hall of fame. I teach self-defense to schools and businesses, deliver the SIA-approved training required to get your license, and run a full-time martial arts gym. Does this make me an expert? No, but it does make for some interesting stories.

Great story, exceptional narrator
Definitely worth adding to your reading list! The story itself is an exciting read, but the narrator really brings the story to life. It was like listening to a close friend tell a thrilling story of the twists and turns in private security. Would definitely recommend.

once I started this book I could not stop!
This book was very interesting. from the moment I started I couldn't stop.
The narration of this book brought it to life.
Really looking forward to more of Matt's books and tales.

Insightful and amusing
This book is an insightful and amusing look into the world of private security. Listening to the book was like listening to a friend regale me with stories over a drink. It's amusing and has some genuinely laugh out loud moments, but it is also very sobering in places as well. Despite seeing door staff/bouncers/security at most venues these days, I have never really given them a second thought. But this book has opened my eyes and given me a brief insight into the their job, along with the violence, danger and potential consequences they face. So I for one will be a lot more thankful for them, the next time I am out on a Friday or Saturday night.

Informative and great read.
I bought this book a few weeks before beginning my career in the Door security industry. At first, before working in the industry I took this book with a grain of salt. I expected many of the events and the situations to be exaggerated, or fictitious. Skipping forward, Upon working some time in the industry, I realized how informative, and helpful this book has been. From situations to expect, to solutions to handle certain issues. Matt is a true master on the door, I recommend this book to anyone who thinks about going into the world of venue/event security as well as people who are generally hostile/afraid of door staff. My only issue with this book is the narrator who just doesn't have the character or voice for it.
