Summary
Cinnamon Peters is one tough cookie.
Every year at Christmas River's annual Gingerbread Junction Competition, pie baker extraordinaire Cinnamon aims to win, taking down any competitor who gets in her way. But when she finds a dead body in the woods behind her pie shop just days before the big competition, Cinnamon realizes that there's much more to worry about than cookies, frosting, and gumdrops.
Someone's out to bring Cinnamon down. And they're playing dirty.
Only Cinnamon and a mysterious stranger who walks into her life one snowy evening can figure out the mystery.
But can they solve it before Cinnamon's chances of gingerbread competition glory crumble?

Nothing stops the baking, not even murder
Sorry this just wasn't for me. I don't mind a little bit of romance in my stories, how else is the author going give depth to the character but not at the expense of the mystery. I can't remember a single question the main character asked a suspect, even when she seemed like the main suspect she was still more worried about the gingerbread competition than clearing her name. Also is It really necessary for every man to throw themselves at her? Yes a mess relationship adds drama but three men madly in love with her? It was a good job the dog was on the ball because otherwise the case wouldn't have got solved with out him, what with the main character baking and reliving a past flame and the sheriff wasn't much better. We didn't even get any possible motives or reasons for why he was killed for anybody until the killer confesses. It's a shame because I did like the characters and the quaint Christmas town. Maybe it's just because it's the first book in the series and it's setting up the characters but I hope the next book focus on the mystery more.
When a stray dog keeps visiting her bakery, Cinnamon puts her baking on hold to follow him and find out what he is trying to tell her. She discovers the body of the very competition she is hoping to win. An old flame returns to town just as Cinnamons ex and his new fiancee arrive. Can Cinnamon out all the distractions behind her and win the gingerbread house competition? Or will everything crumble when she becomes a suspect?
I like the narrator. She made listening to the story easy.

Cheesy but easy and fun
Not the kind of book I normally listen to but - hey it’s Christmas! We all need a little Christmas kitch and cheesy romance.

Easy, cosy listening
Really enjoyed this gentle Christmasy whodunnit. All the elements of a good festive listen: Christmas competition, snow, food, dogs, murder & love.
