About this listen

The Sunday Times Thriller of the Month

Expertly researched and visionary in scale, international number one best seller Ken Follett’s Never is more than a thriller. It imagines a scenario we all hope never comes true, one that will keep you transfixed until the final moments....

A stolen US army drone.

A shrinking oasis in the Sahara Desert.

A secret stash of deadly chemicals.

Each is a threat to the stability of the world but individually are problems that can be overcome. In the diplomatic arena though, everyone will have a different way of dealing with such a threat. And when those in charge disagree and refuse to back down, it will kick off an international chain reaction with potentially catastrophic consequences: a world edging closer to war....

Now three people must work tirelessly and with the utmost skill to stop that from happening:

A spy working undercover with jihadists.

A brilliant Chinese spymaster.

A US president beleaguered by a populist rival for the next election.

The only question is, in a game of brinksmanship can the inevitable ever be stopped?

9/10 of the book was good apart from a lot of padding going off on tangents and telling the story while rushing through the main plot than the so-called end. The end is 2 sentences then well that's all folks no tying up plot points, nope just leave them for the sequel I guess?

I really can't imagine how people ignore that fact. We have no clue what happens we have to I guess make up our own story so my story is the author wrote a very good techno thrill book then got suck on the ending and went the lazy route. The biggest complaint while leaving 5 or 6 important plot points up in the air. Don't read this book if you want a happy ever after! I was thinking about checking out his other books this book annoyed me so much that I will not bother. I can enjoy most books but after 20 hours you pull that really lazy stunt and you're meant to be a best-selling author...

I figure my time would be better spent on authors that don't insult my intelligence with such a lazy and overused trope ending.

Half a story...

Brilliant book I had given up on him as the historical books were following the same blueprint as the previous novel, so were becoming predictable, I am glad I gave this one a try best audio book I have listened to in a long time

Fantastic read

One of his best

All too plausible, very cleverly brought together, pride and face causing the end of civilisation.

I am an audible fan and enjoy the format. this is my second Ken Follett book , the first been Pillars of the Earth. Never is stunning, I did struggle to engage in the first chapter but found myself drawn into the numerous stories/sub plots. I do feel it brought all of them to an all to abrupt close, but what remains unsaid says so much. I found the book engaging, and emotive. thought provoking around world fragility and the multilayered approach and importance
perceived within world peace, be it terrorism or whole scale nations at war. it could have gone on longer for me. I hope there is a sequel of sorts in the pipeline.

stunning

The story is all too believable and grips you throughout. The reader is perfect for the book as her voice portrays the rising tension really well.

just brilliant

With what is happening now in Ukraine this is a reminder of what could happen!

I’m a big Ken Follett fan and this book is very different to his other offerings. However, unlike some other reviews, I found it riveting, each escalation was cleverly plotted and chillingly believable. I’m happy to recommend it.

Great read and scarily realistic

Really liked this book. The characters were great. Depressed by the outcome but it was ‘real’ and was the only proper ending. Disturbing.

Great narrating
