About this listen
Psychiatry has made great advances in the past 50 years but needs a new direction. Today's emphasis on psychiatric drugs will not stand the test of time. Recent advances in epigenetics and the molecular biology of the brain have provided a roadmap for the development of effective, natural, drug-free therapies that do not produce serious side effects. Psychiatric medications have served society well over the last 50 years, but the need for drug therapies will fade away as science advances.
Nutrient Power presents a science-based nutrient therapy system that can help millions of people diagnosed with mental disorders. This approach recognizes that nutrient imbalances can alter brain levels of key neurotransmitters, disrupt gene expression of proteins and enzymes, and cripple the body's protection against environmental toxins. The author's database containing millions of chemical factors in blood, urine, and tissues has identified brain-changing nutrient imbalances in patients diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, behavior disorders, depression, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's disease.
This book describes individualized nutrient therapy treatments that have produced thousands of reports of recovery. Walsh's approach is more scientific than the trial-and-error use of psychiatric drugs and is aimed at a true normalization of the brain. Depression, schizophrenia, and ADHD are umbrella terms that encompass disorders with widely differing brain chemistries and symptoms. Nutrient Power describes nutrient therapies tailored to specific types. Other book highlights include the Walsh Theory of Schizophrenia, a new way to look at autism, a promising new treatment for Alzheimer's, and recommendations for reducing crime and violence.

Winner of multiple awards including AudioFile Best Voice in 2008, narrator Richard Allen performs with great credibility and sincerity as he describes Dr. William Walsh's science-based nutrient therapy system for people with mental disorders such as depression and schizophrenia. Dr. Walsh proposes that addressing the body's underlying biochemical imbalances is more effective than treating symptoms with psychiatric drugs, and he emphasizes the necessity of investigating the causal factors for each individual. Allen's resonant voice underscores the significance of Dr. Walsh's aim to achieve true normalization of the brain.

A good adiobook with some interesting ideas.
The book takes a nutritional approach to the treatment of some complex disorders. Whilst much of the work seems to be from the personal research of the author, I think this is something that is going to become more important over time.

irritating narration
I'm very interested in the material but really struggled to listen to this. The American narrator is very up and down with his voice and it was incredibly distracting. I've started and abandoned it a few times now.

Extremely Dense
I am not entirely clear who this book is aimed at - I can only assume it is meant to prod the medical profession into action because the level of detail is immense. I had hoped for something more like a ‘user guide’ and it is certain not that. Stiff delivery doesn’t help either. If you are a parent in need then be prepared to have to do some serious work to draw out the key points (which meant even be as simple as ‘get tested’!). Would love to know what others think...

Waste of time
Interested in this as my young son has ADHD. Was hoping that I may learn which diet would be best. However , after listening for hours it seems the advice is, ‘go to your doctor and have a specialist blood test done to ascertain which diet is best’ so I would suggest save your time by swerving this book and ‘go to your doctor and have a specialist blood test done to ascertain which diet is best’.
There, I’ve said it.
PS
The narrating is nauseating as well
