About this listen

Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is a national health crisis that continues to grow - yet it remains one of the most misunderstood and incorrectly treated illnesses today. Neuropsychiatrist Daniel G. Amen, MD was one of the first to identify that there are multiple types beyond just purely hyperactive or inattentive ADD, each requiring a different treatment. Now, in this all-new, revised edition, Dr. Amen again employs the latest medical advances in the field, including the largest brain imaging study ever completed on patients with ADD, to identify, examine, and demystify the 7 distinct types of ADD and their specific treatments.

With updated recommendations for nutraceuticals and/or medications targeted to brain type, diet, exercise, lifestyle interventions, cognitive reprogramming, parenting and educational strategies, neurofeedback, and more, Dr. Amen’s revolutionary approach provides a treatment program that can lead sufferers of ADD to a normal, peaceful, and fully functional life.

Sufferers from ADD often say, “The harder I try, the worse it gets.” Dr. Amen tells them, for the first time, why, and more importantly how to heal ADD.

"I highly recommend this book to all who want the most up-to-date information on ADD from one of the most highly regarded neuropsychiatrists of our day.” (William C. Klindt, M.D., child and adolescent psychiatrist, clinical faculty, Stanford University School of Medicine)

Very Helpful & Informative

It's quite a lot to get through, because it's a pretty dense subject. But there's a lot of examples given, as well as corresponding supplements, medications & techniques used. One size does not fit all, & it's very eye opening to learn about the differences as well as being able to better identify what does & does not apply to me.

It's well compiled & helps shift a lost sense of hopeless resignation, into actionable outlines that feel achievable.

Including some very helpful parenting advice & even a hypnotherapy script.

I paused to make a lot of bookmarks, as wading through it to find a reference point in the future would be too much.

A great book for struggling parents.

This book is amazing, such an eye opener. Many “aha” moments. Recommended audio book for sure.

Educational and useful

Lots of education in this book, certainly worth the listen for all parents of ADHD children as well as those who have ADHD themselves. I did have to remind myself it’s ok to not agree with everything being discussed e.g. note on smacking children. I don’t believe in it but that doesn’t discount the rest of the book. I have ADHD and this book has done wonders for my understanding.

Informative, funny, shocking

This is how he starts the book (the real, paper one): If you have ADD, you are not likely to read this entire book. In the first chapter you will find everything you need, the rest is the logic and research behind the strategies.

Guess why I bought the Audible version... ;-D
Halfway through ! :-)

This man really hates people with ADHD

I'm changing my review which originally had some positive feedback, but the more I listen, the more I hear the hatred this Dr has for people with ADHD and I just can't get through it. He calls us disordered, challenging, difficult; he calls it terrifying that ADHD is "increasing", insinuates that it's problematic that we have children.
I just can't recommend this book. It's heartbreaking to listen to knowing that Dr Amen doesn't want us to exist.

Thought provoking

Would you listen to Healing ADD Revised Edition again? Why?

The book was full of interesting insights and suggested methods of dealing with ADD / ADHD. Even if you do not agree with many of the author's assumptions on ADHD (which I don't ) there are still a lot of helpful suggestions you can use to try and help manage ADD. I wouldn't recommend this book as an introduction to ADD / ADHD but it is worth listening to if you're looking for further information and coping strategies. The technical information in the book is easy to understand and well explained.
