Nigel Farage is arguably one of the most influential British politicians of the 21st century. Controversy was never far away, with accusations of racism against the party and various scandals. But, having helped secure the referendum, Farage was largely sidelined by the successful official Brexit campaign. The narrator is excellent and this has the feel of a first rate political thriller fiction bestseller at times rather than just a political biography. Crick’s research is very good and he presents the life of Farage in a considered and compelling way with nuance and balance for the most part.

As expected, Michael Crick has delivered a forensic analysis of Farage and maintained a rivetting attention to detail right until, the closing words. He doesn't pull his punches but neither is this the hatchet job I was worried that it might be.
With a lifelong interest in politics, this is one of the most revealing books I have ever read. And whilst I enjoy following the big political stories Crick's great tome reveals the special characters which inhabit the murky world of politics and reinforced my wish never to get involved in this treacherous trade.
But hat's off to the author for an amazingly well researched and revealing study on this most enigmatic of characters. It's well worth the read.

I am a paid up member of the Guardian reading, Tofu eating, wokerati and greatly enjoyed this book and somewhat remarkably made me dislike Farage less and even admire somethings about him. A considerable achievement in view of my clearly stated position (what others might see as prejudices).
Crick is a very fair minded and seems to me to give considerable care in presenting evidence from both sides rather than just giving his own conclusions/views.
If, like me, you are a remainer and think that Farage has been the main enabler of massive self harm on the country and are put off by reading/listening to a book about him I would recommend you put aside that and listen/read to this.
The narrator ‘puts on’ voices to distinguish who says what. It works, in fact it works very well, which has not been my experience with other audiobooks.
The best £2.95 (got in audio sale) I have spent for a while.

Thoroughly researched, insightful and always engaging account of Britain’s most colourful politician. Well ready by Richard Attlee.If you are a Farage fan you will not be able to put this down - if you’re not a Farage fan then you’ll find plenty here of alleged corruption and other gossip to criticise him about. Cricke gives an amazingly detailed account of the often chaotic world of UKIP and the Brexit party. It ends with Farage handing over the running of Reform UK to Richard Tice and beginning his career as a GB News presenter. Crick’s conclusions appear very ironic given that he closes before Farage’s dramatic re-entrance into frontline British politics in 2024 - a new revised edition in a few years time will be a must!

I am no fan of Farage and I approached a biography of him with some trepidation. I wanted to understand more about this man, but I had no desire to like him or to share his views. I was reassured by the authorship of Michael Crick, who is both a fluent writer and an assiduous researcher, who has put his pen into many highly litigious fires with courage and skill. I wasn't disappointed. Crick has done his homework and Farage emerges as a complex multi-faceted man with deep flaws but with redeeming characteristics. The story itself is often astonishing and the writer is on top form. The book was written a few years ago and it could do with an addendum to cover "what happened next", but even with that proviso, it is a book that needs to be read more widely to understand the phenomenon of Nigel Farage.
