About this listen

The second gritty Newcastle-set thriller in this unforgettable series about a homeless veteran turned local sleuth and vigilante. Follow up to the highly acclaimed The Man on the Street.

'FRESH, ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC AND GRITTY' - LEE CHILD

'CHARACTERS ARE EXCELLENT. RIVETING ... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - PATRICIA GIBNEY

'A TRIUMPHANT SEQUEL ... THE TENSION BUILDS TOWARDS ITS GRIPPING CONCLUSION' - HARRIET TYCE

A series of bizarre drug-related deaths among runaway teenagers has set the North East's homeless community on edge.

The word on the street is that a rogue batch of Spice - the zombie drug sweeping the inner cities - is to blame, but when one of Jimmy's few close friends is caught up in the carnage, loyalty compels him to find out what's really going on.

One Way Street sees the welcome return of Jimmy Mullen, the homeless, PTSD-suffering, veteran as he attempts to rebuild his life following the events in The Man on the Street.

As his probation officer constantly reminds him: all he needs to do is keep out of trouble. Sadly for him, trouble seems to have a habit of tracking Jimmy down.

A great listen!

I really enjoyed this, another great mystery set on the streets of Newcastle, gritty and very real. I enjoyed the reading too, looking forward to Trevor Wood’s next book!

Superb and gripping

Excellent follow up to initial book this was as good if not better than The Man on the Street. Great use of many of the Tyneside regions locations and beautifully narrated throughout. Author and reader have dovetailed once again outstandingly to create a believable and gritty thriller full of real life language and modern day issues. Well done to them both and their wider support.

brilliant writing and excellent narration

I thoroughly enjoyed getting insight into the characters and understanding their strengths and weaknesses. Very realistic although sad to learn about their very real and difficult lives. I can't recommend highly enough.

Crime story with a twist

I came across these books by accident and have just finished the second. They are entertaining, well narrated and I love the fact that the characters are homeless but not portrayed in a patronising manner. The stories feel real even though obviously unlikely.

Geordie sleuthing as good as it gets.

I've just finished book 2 in the Jimmy Mullen series in about four (almost) unputdownable sessions.
This followed my having just read book 1.
The writing is exceptional; the plot unfathomable, and it contains regular laugh-out-loud moments throughout.
I can give this series no higher praise than I think it is as good as any of Mick Herron's Slough House Series.
If you happen to be a Geordie to boot, then the local (super-accurate) details and references add another delightful layer.
Absolutely brilliant!

Excellent!

This is a great book. As is the first in the series. I recommend reading/listening to them in order. It’s very well written. I loved the beautifully drawn characters and the story is compelling. David Nellist does a faultless job of the narration. I very much look forward to the third in the series.
