Written with a wonderfully wry sense of humour, Plain Tales is insightful and highly amusing.

I could listen to these tales again and again!

Delightful!

Beautifully read parables of life during the British raj. Kipling writes in a relaxed conversational style and views the life of the British in India with a clear and dispassionate eye. These classic short stories contain humour, horror and social commentary. For a dazzling picture of life In British India they cannot be beaten!

A unusual and authentic voice

wonderful writing and reading, spoilt by Amazon lumping the short stories together into one hour chunks, making it impossible to find a particular one.

splendid stuff spoilt by the publishers

This is an excellent performance of Kipling’s first collection of stories. Martin Jarvis brings great character and atmosphere to his reading (even if he can’t manage an Irish accent!). Buyers should note, however, that this recording is not complete (omitting around ten stories) and does not follow the sequence of the printed book.

Tales well told ... but not complete
