Summary
Baking. It can get a guy killed.
When a retired detective superintendent chooses to take a culinary tour of the British Isles, he hopes to find tasty treats and delicious bakes...what he finds is a clue to a crime in the ingredients for his pork pie.
His dog, Rex Harrison, an ex-police dog fired for having a bad attitude, cannot understand why the humans are struggling to solve the mystery. He can already smell the answer - it’s right before their noses.
He’ll pitch in to help his human and the shop owner’s teenage daughter as the trio set out to save the shop from closure. Is the rival pork pie shop across the street to blame? Or is there something far more sinister going on?
One thing is for sure, what started out as a bit of fun, is getting deadlier by the hour, and they’d better work out what the dog knows soon or it could be curtains for them all.
Note: This series of books contain no cussing and graphic descriptions of violence or bedroom activities.

this was a pretty boring take, read by a not interesting narrator. maybe it's a kids book and I didn't notice

Great shortish book
I loved the humour that was injected in amongst the mayhem. Will be looking out for the next books with not a lot of patience.

A great mystery with a cool dog.
I really enjoyed this book. The narrator is the same as some of the blue moon paranormal books and having listened to both I think his voice really suits this series of books better. I could imagine him as Albert. The dog is hilarious especially the bit knowing where to bite. In this book having lost his wife a year ago Albert decides to go on a trip learning how to make his favourite food. His wife always used to cook for him. As a retired Police Superintendent he's quite capable of looking after himself and with his dog Rex Harrison disguised as helping dog he can take Rex just about anywhere. He's booked a lesson to learn how to make pork pies but when a severed thumb is found and it looks like the business will close Albert steps in to help. Great start to the series. Look forward to listening or reading to more. I received a free copy of this book from the author but the review is my own opinion.

Moderate story, moderate performance.
Good guys are decent. Villains laughable. Pleasantly amusing rather than very funny. Cop stuff unconvincing unlike pie making details. Annoying dog probably less annoying if you like dogs.

Enjoyable
Will get the next in the series. This made a pleasant change - lighthearted mystery. Fun characters. Storyline not too taxing but still enjoyable.

Easy listening short book, perfect for ironing
I love the characters which are easy to like and the story told by different perspectives gave the detective in me a chance to flourish.
The narration had the right tone but was unfortunately read with many pauses which was rather annoying.

Really enjoyable
Funny in all the right places this was an enjoyable listen. The tension as the mystery unfolded was spot on and Rex Harrison and Albert are now among my firm favourite listens.

Doggone it , it’s great!
Loved this new find !
Fun , yet surprisingly tense in places . Found all the characters interesting .. and the storyline zips along at a nice pace . Narrator was exactly right too .
Heading for the second outing of Albert and Rex !!
