About this listen

A shocking thriller inspired by the true stories of a male prison officer in a women’s prison....

Prison Officer Jim Dalton works on the male side of HMP Peterborough. It’s a dangerous place, fuelled by testosterone-driven violence, but he has the prisoners’ respect. When Dalton is transferred to the female side of the prison, his next shift is so easy he can’t believe that the officers over there get paid the same wages. He sleeps well for the first time in years.

Billie hasn’t had it easy in life, and she has earned the nickname Damage because she has been known to cause some! Ending up in prison might have been inevitable, but Billie hasn’t given up on her dreams yet. If there’s a way to get out of prison faster, she’s going to find it.

When Dalton is assigned to the young offenders’ wing, dealing with female prisoners no longer seems so simple, and in Billie he fears he may have met his match. As Billie starts to turn the screw, Dalton faces losing everything....

Taking a break from his best-selling DI Barton series, Ross Greenwood returns with this shocking and utterly compelling glimpse behind the bars of a women's prison. From a man who walked the landings himself....

Prisoner

This book is one of those un-put-downable reads/audiobook stories.
A brilliantly threaded, easy to follow, story of prison life on both sides of the bars.
Again it has superb narration by the unique David Thorpe

Excellent

This is a great story. It gets uncomfortable and leaves you wondering what's coming up next. If you liked the "Killer" stories I think you'll really enjoy this,

When infatuation goes wrong.

I enjoyed Dalton’s story and now feel l have a better understanding of what goes on in both male and female prisons. Proving that none of us are perfect, Greenwood explores just how temperamental, coping with a young family and a stressful career can be. Listening to all the petty arguments and disappointments any parent will sympathise. The realisation that young children are hard work seems to evade Dalton, and only when his wife up’s and leaves does the penny slowly drop. But, as the old saying goes ‘while the cats away’.
Leading this family man off the straight and narrow is a woman dressed up as the devil in disguise. Can he resist her?

An informative, enjoyable read, which l would recommend.

A strong story, read very well.

People familiar with Ross Greenwood's "Killer" series - this is nothing like those !

There aren't any serial killers or sadistic murderers, just a prison full of criminals who happen to be women. It's written as a true story, and since Greenwood worked in the prison in which the story is set, it certainly does ring true.

The characters are engaging and the story is gripping, and although it's a more of a thriller than the serial killer stories I normally read, I really enjoyed this.

The narrator is chosen well and has a matter-of-fact style that suits the material.

Biography or Novel? Could be either!

Ross Greenwood take a bow, a great stand alone book, not only does it develop two brilliant characters, it also brings in Ross’ clear knowledge of the prison service and the environment, the impact this has on both characters lives.
At times it almost felt biographic.

Outstanding

I am a retired Prison Officer of 30 years service, this is by far the best book about prisons that I have ever listened to or read. It's not fast paced with loads of action but it's amazingly real, it deals with the mental side of being a prisoner and a prison officer. The emotions are real as are the consequences to the decisions we make. Highly recommended a real thought provoking and honest book, thank you Ross Greenwood
