About this listen

What if you accidentally fell in love with the right guy?

Andy:

If my life was a movie, I would be the sidekick. Not an especially promising start when my plan is to finally let my best friend know I have a crush on him. I just need a complete makeover. Change everything about myself so that when Falcon returns from his summer vacation, he can finally see I'm the love of his life. If I knew what I was doing, I wouldn't look like every nerd cliche wrapped into one awkward package. In short, I'm screwed. But then Law Anderson enters the picture . . .

Law:

I need somebody to tutor my hockey team, and Andy needs somebody to help him with his crush. Only the more time I spend with Andy, the more I like this quirky guy who makes me laugh, and pretty soon I'm the one who's tutoring Andy in way more than we initially agreed upon. But as weeks pass and the chemistry between us turns explosive, I'm starting to think that I might be in way over my head with Andy. If only I could make Andy realize that he doesn't need to change himself for love. If only I could make Andy see that he just needs to be with somebody who has considered him perfect all along . . .

funny and loving

Warning: Give the first 5 chapters a chance because it WILL get amazing! The first time I heard this book, I almost dropped it multiple times because Andy was the worst.
He starts as one of those annoying, bitter, whiney, judgemental, boring person that will stress you to the core, while the author tries their best to convince you acting like that is cute and quirky. Thankfully, the more Andy spends with Law, he loses all the whiney, bitterness, and judgmental vibes and turns into an actual cutie that's so sweet, charismatic, and absolutely hilarious.
Law is THE best!!!! He's amazing, loving, hilarious, and so damn hot. He's probably one of my favorite characters ever.
They complement so much, and their romance is so perfect that it will make you swoon and crave more.
I highly recommend this book, you'll have a blast 🥰

Throughly enjoyed this audiobook. Performance was great from both voice actors, and the story was perfect.

The voice

I love the voice I don’t know why but when ever I listen to a story and it’s from this two voices I just know the story will be great. Good book 🥰🥰🥰

Good book

I really enjoyed the book. I liked the story and narration was good as well. I really liked all of the characters. Loved Andy's parents. Andy was humourous about himself and his past experiences in life. He was very matter of fact and honest regarding what his interactions with others, including his best friend, were like. I liked the way Law played off Andy when they were together. It was a sweet romance with only mild angst caused by miscommunication. I expected there to be more in the book involving Law's parents, considering the type of people they were and their behaviour. (No, they were not homophobic.). The resolution didn't quite fit, in my opinion. Still, it was a good book overall.

Sweet

Sweet and easy to follow. Some spice, but not to many scenes. Good performance as always.

pleasant storyline

I loved the character Andy. Pretty nice story overall. probably not the best idea to have two narrators, especially. I have heard a lot of books by both but one of them is fraught and full of angst all the way through which really spoiled it for me........just my personal opinion

Surprising and low-drama, heart squeezing and hot!

I loved how the plot twisted from a predictable route into a surprising drama peak! Both narrators did a great job at bringing the chatacters to life.

Sweet

It’s a familiar trope, but I loved how well it was done. I liked how supportive the characters were of each other.

Performances were good.

A relatable gay autistic protagonist

Briar Prescott’s Project Hero is a very rare find – a book in which the protagonist is an autistic gay man. Given that autistic people are more likely than neurotypical people to be gay, there really should be more books like this.

As far as I can recall the author never mentions autism or related words but many listeners on the autistic spectrum will recognise themselves in Andy. As they would their yearnings to be accepted, to love and be loved.

I don’t think Andy knows he’s autistic. He mentions that he’s weird, he only has one friend, some wardrobe issues and does not like crowds (to name but a few characteristics). These do not bother him – it is just the way he is – but when it comes to love and lust, he gets confused and his problems with reading other people become problematic.

Although unusual in having an autistic lead, the rest of the book follows the familiar pattern of the romantic novel genre and offers pleasant escapism. It is competently written and narrated, but I would especially recommend it because it is funny and relatable, which makes it especially enjoyable to listen to.
