About this listen

An Adepta Sororitas Audiobook

On a distant world, an obscure order of the Adepta Sororitas studies their founder's visions. They live in solitude… which is about to be broken as danger approaches.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Peter Fehervari brings a tale of an unusual order of the Sisters of Battle, a sister breaking her self-imposed exile, and an Astra Militarum unit seeking respite from their woes… and it's every bit as weird and wonderful as you'd hope.

THE STORY

The Adepta Sororitas of the Last Candle have stood vigil over their sanctuary world for centuries, striving to decipher their founder's tormented visions. Outsiders are unwelcome… yet still they come.

Decimated by an encounter with a lethal xenos entity, the survivors of an elite Astra Militarum company have journeyed to the Candleworld in search of healing, escorted by a woman who is no stranger there – Sister Hospitaller Asenath Hyades, who turned her back on the order decades ago.

As the seekers near the sect's bastion, malign forces begin to stir among the planet's storm-wracked spires, but the most insidious shadows lie in their own souls.

the story is alright, but the sudden jump's back and forth in time while telling some of the characters story can be a bit jarring. there were a few times I got confused untill I realized it was another time jump.

the two narrators work well and fit the story well.

the theme is pretty grim dark and goes where you think it is but not quite.

I read this book a couple of years ago and enjoyed even if I was pleasantly confused by it, I know far more about the coil now having read all Peters books concerning it
The audiobook just made it even better with great narrators

Peter Fehervari is on my Mount Rushmore of 40k writers along with Abnett, ADB and Chris Wright. Complex, interesting characters all pursuing their own goals. Narration is exceptional, perfect for this audiobook.

Outstanding book!

a bit confusing with the time jumps but solidly enjoyable story. I haven't heard mention of corpse starch for a while! the narrator is absolutely brilliant, I am a big fan after this.

Second book from this author (first being Reverie) and absolutely loved it. Top notch performance. Black Library at its best.

The book is great but the narration really stood out to me, the cast and tone is so well done.
