About this listen

Over a million copies of the Iron Druid books sold

Kevin Hearne creates the ultimate Atticus O'Sullivan adventure in the grand finale of the New York Times best-selling Iron Druid Chronicles.

Unchained from fate, the Norse gods Loki and Hel are ready to unleash Ragnarok, aka the Apocalypse, upon the earth. With a whole host of dark allies on their side, there's a globe-spanning battle on the cards - one which Druid Atticus O'Sullivan will be hard-pressed to survive, much less win.

Atticus must recruit the aid of an Indian witch and a trickster god in hopes that they'll give him just enough leverage to both save Gaia and see another sunrise. After all, if the world ends, who's going to make sure the hound Oberon gets his well-deserved snack?

Magical world made real

A little bit sad, I had hoped the hero would have a better ending but that does not take away from the brilliant story line, marvellous narration and I will miss Oberon!

A Fitting Finale To This Gripping Series.

The Iron Druid Chronicles has become one of my favourite series. Kevin Hearne's writing style is fantastic and his stories keep me hooked. His tales are intelligent, well researched but still easy to read. They're full of threads but never leave me feeling confused. Kevin keeps me entertained from the first page to the last. Atticus, Granuaile and Owen all get their own chapters in this book, with their own adventures and perspectives.

I downloaded the Audible narration to be able to listen to Scourged as well as reading it. However, I ended up listening to the whole thing! Christopher Ragland’s performance was once again amazing. He transported me into each and every adventure. The pace at which he read the story and the emotions he added to the different scenes was perfect. I love the different accents and voices he gives each character – his performance brings them all to life. I knew straight away whose head we were in for the different chapters and didn't get lost in any of the conversational dialogue.

While I’m talking about the characters, I must say how much I love them all in this series. They’re multifaceted, written with their own goals, influences and histories. It makes each one feel real and believable - even the villains.

Although the story was fast-paced it never felt rushed. Our main protagonists all had their own separate adventures in this book. I enjoyed journeying with each of them, never really knowing when or where the next problem would occur or the next attack would strike.

Scourged is the nineth and final book in the Iron Druid Chronicles so a lot has happened so far. However, Kevin does a good job of weaving any pertinent information into the story seamlessly. I didn’t notice any detrimental effects to the flow or pace. I love the way he ended this story - the Iron Druid's world hasn't ended but our adventures with Atticus has. I hope to come across Atticus, Granuaile, Owen and the hounds in future books based in this amazing urban fantasy world.

Great ending and wrapping up of the

Really good ending to the story, not sure what issue other reviewers had, if other reviews have put you off and you are this far into the story I'd suggest ignoring them and give it a go. Really pleased I did

and so it ends

I have waited for this book for what seems like forever though I know it is not but when finally came I was happy and sad as I knew it was mostly likely the end of this series. Though I could ask for a better end. This series has been a great and thrilling ride and I can only hope for more but I am content. If you haven't read any of these book you should, its just mind blowing, sad and a happy experience. The best series I have read over the years and can only say what would Oberon do.....

Great ending shame about the Irish accent

I enjoyed this the last in the life of the iron Druid. It was marred only by the appalling attempt at an Irish accent, that was not only bad but kept being lost mid sentence, only to be tried again a few words on.

end of an era

I will miss these fantastic characters and this wonderfully diverse world. But most if all I will miss Oberon. He needs his own series 😊

Always a bit of engrossing fun

Never really deep and meaningful and I find the self recriminations stuff a bit much - same path of so many thriller, mystery et al writers ... but these books are always so enjoyable. A little romance, good vs evil with its inherent complexities, heroism, good diversity of characters including women and not totally slating christianity (as a practising christian, accepting the make believe context of the book I find his references fine and some pretty funny). A reserved person, Oberon makes me laugh out loud. I only give a very books I find really exceptional a 5 star - so 3s and 4s for all this series means I really enjoy it and I 'listen again' to the lot. Thanks Kevin.
