About this listen

From the global #1 best-selling author of We Play Games comes the next Audible Original from the queen of domestic noir, Sarah A. Denzil, narrated by Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer) and Joanne Froggatt (Sherwood).

On the Yorkshire moors, celebrated author Faye Mathis is coming to terms with her early-onset dementia. She has begun writing her memoir, committing her past to paper before her memory betrays her. But her family history is full of gaps, bloodlines cut short, family ties all ending in knots…

When a picture of Faye – dirty and dishevelled, stumbling alone on the moors – goes viral, her life is thrown into chaos. Faye is convinced she is not that person in the photograph. But how can she be sure?

Faye sets out to find the true identity of the woman in the photograph. But the more questions she asks, the more confounding the truth becomes. As her darkest suspicions begin to bear true, Faye is forced to question all that she knows and everything she doesn’t.

Because every family has secrets, and there’s always someone who wants them to remain that way.

The book is good and the readers are fine but the production is really annoying. With strange music in the beginning of each chapter and some sound effects that for me were more like a half hearted attempt to make a graphic audio/ dramatized audiobook. It was NOT like listening to a film. The sound effects popped up haphazardly… 😵‍💫

I don’t have any thing against dramatized audio books, but it didn’t work in this book for me. Just drop all the nonsensical music and sounds and read the book. The story is good enough without the need of all the annoyances.

Good story annoying production

The idea of the main character having the start of dementia gave this a twist.
I liked that it was a long way through before you could start to fit the pieces together.
I enjoyed the confusion between the people too.
Definitely worth a read.

tricky and convoluted

Engrossing story with lots of twists and turns, a very engaging and perfect casting, could work out most of the plot but some unexpected twists, a little far fetched on occasion but will definitely look up more from this author

Intriguing from the beginning

at times it was difficult to keep track of who was who, however in the end it made sense. Clearly there is a scope for a sequel...does Dina get even?

I loved this. Great storyline, although I did guess part of it early on. Excellent characters; I couldn’t stop listening.

Enjoyed this audiobook. Slightly off-beat story, with a nice twist in the tail. Thought the narrators were excellent.

Entertaining listen

Absolutely brilliant, kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I am definitely going to check more books by this author.

The most gripping book I've listened to in a while!

From the very first page, ‘The Secret Sister’ grabbed me by the collar and refused to let go. This book is a masterclass in suspense — layered, emotional, and bursting with secrets that unravel at just the right pace. Every time I thought I had things figured out, another twist came flying at me.

The characters are richly drawn, with motivations that feel heartbreakingly real. The story weaves past and present in a way that adds depth and tension, and just when I thought I’d caught my breath — nope, another revelation.

This is one of those rare reads where you tell yourself “just one more chapter” and suddenly it’s 2AM. If you’re into dark family secrets, emotional depth, and plots that keep your pulse racing, ‘The Secret Sister’ delivers on all fronts.

Highly recommend — but clear your schedule first. You won’t be putting this one down.
