About this listen

A darkly comedic thriller by the New York Times best-selling author of Underground Airlines, The Last Policeman, and the Audible Originals Q&A and Inside Jobs.

Jack Diller is just one more struggling actor on the road to nowhere. He’s got an agent who barely remembers his name, his ex-girlfriend has hooked up with a Silicon Valley dude, and the milk in his fridge is so far past its sell-by date it’s historic. The only way Jack can scrape together a bare existence is by delivering food to exactly the types of successful people he wishes he could be.

Then, one day, a very strange audiobook shows up on his phone. The Killer Instinct seems to be your basic self-help guide, narrated by a washed-up action star named Hector Bruno, and brimming with cheesy advice for how to get your life together.

With so little to lose, Jack starts listening...and listening some more. He starts talking to Hector like he’s his best friend.

And then...Hector starts talking back.

There’s got to be more story here?!

I really enjoyed this story, Wil and Ron gave brilliant performances and the effects for some of Ron’s pieces added great depth.

Having never written a book, as I don’t have anywhere near the skill required, it’s probably hypocritical of me to say: There needs to be more!! The story was great and I really enjoyed it, I would have liked to have the Killer Instict part play out for a bit longer. That being said, the story doesn’t lose anything with the way it’s delivered and it runs nicely.

decent story

I enjoyed this despite really not enjoying Will narrating ,I find his voice grating ,but still worth a couple hours downtime

Surprised and hooked!

Great included with audible book! I found I was hooked pretty early and couldn't stop listening. the very ending was a bit of a let down, like the last 5 or so minutes BUT the actual ending (as I see it) was great. It just should have ended 5 minutes earlier!

_

Quite a good short story.
I found myself crying out in my head to the main character not to do certain things that were, clearly, bad ideas. it was a reasonably obvious twist at the end but it does not detract from the overall enjoyment of the story.

Great fun

Unexpectedly funny. Before I started my evening walk, I downloaded a few stories included in Plus catalogue. Planned to listen to this while walking, but had to finish it. Some dark humour, quirky characters, and a compelling story of our dreams, weaknesses, and well, bad luck.
Beautifully performed as well.
