About this listen
When the naked, battered body of an unidentified teenager is found dumped in an alleyway, postmortem finds evidence of a harrowing series of events. Another teenage death with the same MO pushes DI Hannah Robbins and her team on the Nottingham City division Major Crimes Unit to their limits - and across county borders.
In a race against the clock, they attempt to unpick a thick web of lies and deceit to uncover the truth behind the deaths. But it doesn't stop there. When catching a killer isn't enough, just how far are the team willing to push themselves to save the next girl?

Not shallow at all!
Shallow Waters is actually a very deep book! Hannah Robbins is definitely the police officer I would want investigating if I was the victim of a crime. Once she's got the bit between her teeth, she's not going to let go. You can even try to blow her up and she'll brush herself off and get on with the job. I'm not convinced that Ethan the journalist is the best match for her; I think she could do better, but this is only the first book so we will have to see how that plays out. Hannah's back story, especially her imprisoned sister, Zoe, is dangled tantalisingly in front of us and makes sure we will continue to listen to the next in the series. The police officers reaction to finding a dead child struck me as particularly endearing. They were all shocked and it's good to know that even long serving police officers can still find crime upsetting. It took me a while to acclimatise to Colleen Prendergast's narration; she sounds so young. But that's on me, not Colleen. I've reached that age where all police officers, doctors, politicians etc; look like they've just left school and shouldn't be out after dark without their mummies, so pay no attention to my issues. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable, completely credible police procedural that I'm happy to recommend. Now onto Made to Be Broken, Hannah Robbins book 2.

police procedural -both pacy and plodding
Good characters and plot but quite a lot of description of procedure which either with narrators style or the writing took some of the pace. felt like overly detailed description of the crimes which i found unnecessary to the story and uncomfortable so a bit gratuitous. not sure whether it was the narrator or the writing but what could have been gripping just missed out.

Good story
I enjoyed the story but it would have been more realistic if the narrator had not sounded so young.

Good story..
I’m so disappointed with the ending of this book, I liked the story but the end massively let it down for me. Good narration

Hard hitting
very dark storyline but unfortunately you know it is going on in the world. I wish there was a more finished ending so we know what happened with the characters but it was a story that once I started listening it I had to finish it just to know what happened! it was a very gripping thriller from start to finish and very well performed

Irritating narrator!
I struggled through half of this, but just couldn't stand the narrator any more. Thankfully, this was a freebie. The story itself wasn't bad, but I won't listen to others unless the narrator changes!

interesting listen
good story with lots of emotion but the narration was rather monotone - did not distinguish between characters and was not positive enough for me sounding far too young to be the main person. however did not detract much from the tale or listening experience.
