When one of Minnesota's wealthiest scions goes missing, it's up to Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson to track a cold-blooded killer.

The year is 1896, and the magnificent winter carnival is under way in St. Paul, Minnesota, when Holmes and Watson are summoned by the city's most powerful man, railroad magnate James J. Hill. A wealthy young man has disappeared on the eve of his wedding - and his fiancée suspiciously discards her wedding dress. After a grisly discovery in the carnival's ice palace leads to a flurry of clues, Holmes is on the case.

His pursuit of the murderer takes him through the highest echelons of St. Paul society and into cahoots with Shadwell Rafferty, a gregarious saloon owner and part-time private investigator. Soon Holmes, Watson, and Rafferty are embroiled in a perilous adventure that takes them from one frozen corner of the city to another and out onto the treacherous ice of the Mississippi River as they trail a cruel and ruthless killer.

These stories by Larry Millet are fantastic. As a diehard Sherlock Holmes fan I wasn’t expecting too much when I chose to listen to this book. However I am really pleased to be able to say I loved this one. The story was great.

Steve Hendrickson has a great voice and is a convincing Watson throughout the narrative.


Larry Millet - please write lots more stories. Steve Hendrickson- please narrate them all.

This is a brilliant Sherlock Holmes mystery, the author is one of the best Holmes writer's and can't wait for the next in the series.

Ice Mystery

I have read and re-read the Holmes stories since I was a child and am usually disappointed by new Holmes stories. I decided to try the Red Demon because it was free and really enjoyed it.

The author clearly loves Holmes and Watson because he has worked hard to capture the essence of the pair. He has not fallen into the trap of many authors in duplicating original phrases over and over in an attempt to give his imitation authenticity, a technique that invariably fails and one which always turns me off a book.

A cleverly woven story with just a hint of Holmes' humanity, with well-written characters in the supporting roles.

Excellent Sherlockian adventure expanding the Holmes and Watson universe. Very well performed too with accents and voice intonation.

I have now listened to several SH stories which were by authors other than Sir Arthur Cannon Doyle. Some have been good, some not so. These by Larry Millet are in interesting to good category. The narration by Steve Hendrickson is very good. The voices he has given to SH, JW and CL are good and easy recognised as I listen to the story without thinking about who said what. The fact that narrator has stayed the same for all the stories is a big bonus.

I liked the new character Chad Lafferty introduced. An excellent, fully rounded and likeable character. Well done.

Sherlock should be read in a calm and relaxed manner..this is read as if in a sprit with Bolt, personally I gave up after 2 minutes, which is shame, as I love everything about Sherlock. very
disappointing download..

it's not a sprint,ow down chap

The author has taken Holmes and Watson to Minnesota.
A perfectly reasonable idea.
But its way too long. Ludicrously complicated.
We gave up a third of the way then skipped to the last chapters.
I don't think we will bother with any of the others. This book was lacking in everything that made the original stories exceptional.
