About this listen
I don’t understand Americans. Or, as we say in Scotland, I dinna understand ye eedjits.
And I definitely dinna understand the crazy mother-in-law of my cousin Declan. Who in their right mind names a wee dog Chuffy?
I’m stuck in New York after ma agent makes a bloody mess of an otherwise good endorsement contract for a sports towel company, and this crazy American holiday - Thanksgiving - is in two days.
The invitation to spend it in Mendon, Massachusetts with the Jacoby family is about as appealing as rotten haggis. As far as I can tell, Thanksgiving is about stuffing yerself silly, watching pathetic American “football”, while fighting with relatives ye only see once a year.
If I wanted that last one, I’d head back to Scotland, where we dinna need a holiday to be salty to each other.
Ma firm answer is nae.
Until I remember Amy is part of the family.
Suddenly, I’m available.
Eager, even. Perhaps she’ll pull ma wishbone. I hear that’s part of the Turkey Day festivities, aye?
What I canna admit, though, is how she pulls ma heartstrings, too.
Which shouldna feel better than the wishbone, but it does.
And here comes Amy's mother with another holiday tradition, this one a bit early.
A sprig o’ mistletoe, dangling right above Amy’s bonnie head.
Shopping for a Turkey features Scottish football player Hamish McCormick and Amy Jacoby as they navigate unusual cultural norms, new traditions, and the undeniable attraction between these two characters, who have appeared as supporting players in Julia Kent's New York Times best-selling Shopping series. It's their turn to have their own all-new spin-off series. And to pull the wishbone. ;)

A fun read.
I felt like I was just getting into the story when it ended, if I didn't have the next book to read right away I would be completely disappointed. I love the tension and chemistry between Hamish and Amy is tangible and there were many LOL moments. I can't wait to see what happens with them.

The Terrible Scottish Accent Lets It Down
The story itself wasn't terrible and I'll be continuing with the series but it it drives me crazy that there are literally millions of Scottish men in the world who could narrate this perfectly but instead the job goes to an English guy who does a terrible impression of a Scottish accent. It might also have helped to have Scottish people proof it as well because they would've pointed out that 'nay' isn't a Scottish replacement word for no in general language terms. I think the only place anyone would use that in that way is if they were voting in Parliament or something.
Overall though the story was good and what we would expect from the Jacoby/McCormick's, it's just a shame about the narration.

A funny AF romcom with great narration.
Hamish is this cocky Scottish footy (insert soccer if you’re American) player and Amy is part of a big rambunctious family. Seriously, I want to be her parents when I grow up. They are hilarious! There were so many funny moments from a dog running around with his head stuck in a turkey to trying to catch an actual live turkey. I loved the way that Julia had all her wee Scottish sayings perfectly and the Monty Python reference was not lost on me. I grew up on Monty Python so I really enjoyed the nod to flesh wounds!
Emma was fantastic as Amy. She was exasperated with Hamish and had some of the best lines. She easily flitted between American and Scottish accents when voicing both main characters without missing a beat. Shane brought his Scottish A game. I loved that he sounded Scottish enough to be convincing but his accent wasn’t so strong that we struggled to understand him. He did a great job at giving us the Scot with all the one lines and flirting and it was just a fun audiobook.
An all round great romcom that had me laughing out loud and drawing eye rolls from the hubby!
