About this listen

Laura and Owen buy a secluded cottage on the edge of the Peak District. Old mines riddle the hills surrounding their new home and soon after moving in, Laura starts to hear faint snatches of birdsong. Her husband, wrapped up in his new job, is rarely around.

Nervous and alone, Laura fears she's developing tinnitus. Her doctor can find nothing wrong. Then an archaeological dig on a neighbouring hill unearths some disturbing finds...and Laura's life starts to become terrifying.

Brilliant narration

Good story, but sometimes lacking.
Overall I gave 5* as the narration was perfect. Recommend!

BEST Paranomal Thriller I've read in YEARS!!!

Absolutely, utterly brilliant!!! Won't disappoint like so many books of this genre - which takes real skill to get right! Will be trusting this author with my next few credits!!!

Uninspiring

Listened as I’d enjoyed another book by same author but very disappointing … just boring and drawn out 🤷🏼‍♀️

Nothing new to see here

Not really engrossing and certainly not tense/suspenseful. I did worry about the kitten a lot. Otherwise lots of familiar stuff. Not one of my favourites.

Very enjoyable

Really enjoyed this book. Very scarey in parts! Took you down several different roads before the ending. Well written.

Quite a good tale!

I enjoyed this, between credits as it was free, it was a good story and well read. Got a little tedious towards the end however. I listen to a lot of free audio books (well I try to and usually switch them off within minutes). This had a nice cosy, ghost story vibe. Give it a try!

Nightmare or Warning?

So well written, so beautifully narrated. Loved every word. Walked every shaky step with Laura.

Great story line

An enjoyable book with a good story line. It takes a little time to get into it, but once you've got it, you will just need to listen to the end! Well worth a listen to.

Needs a helpful editor

A good enough idea but some simple failures to convince. In particular (semi spoiler) a woman of 39 who misses a period is not going to immediately assume that she's hitting the menopause ten years early. She will wonder if she's pregnant, even if it's unlikely. A composer would not be working out major changes to a performance three days before it begins, since the orchestra would need to rehearse it well in advance. Archaelogists would immediately know whether a skeleton was ancient by its appearance and by the soil levels which would be clearly disturbed by any modern burial. They would also have to report human remains immediately to a coroner as a matter of course. These aren't minor points but essential to the plot, and really undermined credibility. The characters are not well-drawn; I'm afraid it's not a great story though the reader is good.
