Summary
Winner of the Specsavers Crime & Thriller Book of the Year 2018.
Longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2018
On a stifling summer's day, 11-year-old Jack and his two sisters sit in their broken-down car, waiting for their mother to come back and rescue them. 'Jack's in charge,' she said. 'I won't be long.' But she never comes back.
Three years later, mum-to-be Catherine wakes to find a knife beside her bed, and a note that says: 'I could have killed you'.
Meanwhile Jack is still in charge - of his sisters, of supporting them all, of making sure nobody knows they're alone in the house, and - quite suddenly - of finding out the truth about what happened to his mother. But the truth can be a dangerous thing....

Slow to start but overall a brilliant listen
I didn’t think I was going to get into this story. Haven’t read any Bauer and it seemed a little ponderous at the beginning. But bit by bit, it draws the listener in to a complex mystery and it’s difficult to determine the outcome. It’s not entirely plausible, but the characters are well depicted and there’s a compelling element of familial ties that draws it together.
It picks up in pace and overall, I enjoyed the story as an interesting diversion.

Snap! Riveting from start to finish.
Just brilliant. Belinda Bauer creates visual and emotional imagery throughout without any let-up of suspense. Andrew Wincott gives a superb performance throughout. Probably the best narrator of audio books I’ve ever heard. Great at each character. Just wow to this entire book!

Well written and entertaining
This one is very cleverly written. There are three stories, which seem to have no connection, but soon Ms Bauer skilfully weaves them together and everything makes perfect sense. It is a book about actions and reactions, and how one snap decision can change everything. The opening scene, where we meet three children, Jack, Joy and Merry, hooked me right in. The writing is superb. It is fairly slow paced which gave me the chance to savour every minute.
I loved the character of Jack, and rooted for him throughout the book, but all the characters are well written. The two bumbling policemen, Marvel and Reynolds added some welcome humour.
I enjoyed the narration by Andrew Wincott.

Kept me gripped from start to finish
This is the first time I have read/listened to a book by this author. I was not disappointed. I have recommended Snap to family and friends. it's a different take on a murder mystery. I actually had the Audio version. I was glued to it.
it was also a very good narration, kept me wanting more. A definite page turner

Good story, but the narrator is TOO distracting
The narrator on this audiobook totally ruined it for me. everything is read as a tone of impending doom, which means when there is a significant point in the storyline it was lost. It is like a movie with a chilling score played all the way through. such a shame as I really enjoyed the book it's self.

Very enjoyable!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, kept me listening (& looking forward to listening to more). Not as many twists & turns as I was expecting but still very enjoyable & worth a listen. I’m on the fence about the narration..... I enjoyed it for the most part but there were some parts where the narrator slightly changed the voice of a character which made it not instantly recognisable as the character it was meant to be

Good story, poorly acted...
Andrew Wincott's narrating voice is good and easy to listen to but I found his character voices and acting almost comical, particularly that of Marvel. However the story was good enough to keep me listening ***SPOILER*** apart from never really finding out why the murder was committed other than he just "snapped" unless I missed that bit.

Gripped from the get go
thoroughly enjoyed from the beginning. the suspense built in one of the early chapters is incredible so listen out for that. character traits were added to by the narrator. would definately recommend.
