Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Just the thing for a broken heart. A wonderfully romantic novel from the No. 1 Sunday Times bestselling author of Recipe for Love, A French Affair and The Perfect Match.
'I don't suppose you'd care to house-sit for a while...'
Hetty Longden's mother thinks that looking after Great Uncle Samuel's crumbling stately home will be just the thing for Hetty's broken heart. Hetty doesn't mind; at least she can be miserable in private. But 'private' is a relative term in a village which revolves around the big house. Particularly when you are expected to thwart Great Uncle Samuel's awful heir, and his nefarious plans for his inheritance.
Pitchforked into the community's fight to save the manor, Hetty has no time to wallow. And once she has shared her troubles with one neighbour (Caroline: a very understanding shoulder, despite her glamorous appearance and impossibly long legs), and cast an appreciative eye over another (Peter: equally long-legged, but offering rather more practical help), she wonders if her heart is irretrievably broken after all...

Another goody from Katie Fforde
Always enjoy a Katie Fforde book. Rounded characters and good plot. The reader of this book does a very odd voice for Connor however, which took some getting used to. I love listening to books but this voice jarred a bit when she read Connor’s part.

lovely story
my only critique is the narrator to be honest. just felt another narrator would have played to the stories strengths more. loved it anyway.

Fabulous story awful narration
I love katie Fforde books and was so looking forward to this as one of my faves but the narration is so bad I gave up, the voices are shocking and just makes the book feel old and I gave up after an hour! It's slow, monosallibic and dready. Waste of a credit! Read it don't listen, I've made the mistake of getting this and life skills, managed 20mins of that.

Not happy about this book
I’m not happy about the message this book gives out to women.
The narrator is very good and I liked the personality of the female protagonist. However, the male ‘hero’ is a very unpleasant and abusive character. I didn’t like him at all. He was constantly angry and if she married him her life would be a nightmare! Yet she still loved him and blamed herself. He even called her stupid when they were making love!
I’m gobsmacked!
I usually really enjoy Katie Fforde books.
