About this listen

Natalie Queiroz was eight months pregnant when she was stabbed by her partner in the most vicious attack imaginable.

In the space of nine minutes, and in broad daylight, Natalie was stabbed 24 times with a carving knife. She suffered horrific wounds to her lungs, liver, stomach and uterus, whilst the knife missed her baby by a margin of two millimetres, before the arteries in her wrists were methodically severed by the hooded attacker she finally realised was her partner and the father of her unborn child.

After heroic intervention by passers-by and police, the attack was brought to an end, but her ordeal was not over. An air ambulance rescue was launched, and against all medical odds, Natalie and her baby survived - but not without life-changing physical and emotional damage.

Still Standing is the story of one life-shattering event - what came before that fateful day, what happened on it and how one woman and her baby survived to rebuild and heal together after it. At once a shocking story of evil, manipulation and violence and a truly moving reminder that a life can be pieced back together, no matter how bad the damage, this book will empower and inspire anyone who has ever faced true adversity to rise up and stand tall.

Could not stop listening to this book. I remember hearing about the horrendous attack which has always stuck with me. It truly is an inspirational story, one which should never have happened, however Natalie really is proof you can survive. The narrator read the book so well, the emotions came through and I often felt I could hear Natalie herself through the narration. Would recommend!

I listen to audiobooks frequently, usually at the rate of 2 hours per day. by the time I was very early into this book, I knew I was hooked. It is, quite genuinely, absolutely super. touching, in some ways naive, though in the best possible sense, spirited, horribly sad, difficult to understand people's motives, beautifully read, highly emotive. I am very disappointed that I didn't discover it the day it was published. I would be absolutely delighted if Natalie was to produce a follow-up in a few years to tell us how her life was going. If you're at all interested in humanity in the wider sense, and have any kind of heart, which let's be honest we all do, this is an absolutely must listen. also, many congratulations to the narrator who summed up and phrased the whole book beautifully

absolutely phenomenal

An amazing story of a woman with such a will to live and nurture her children. I found the narrator was good. My only teeny tiny gripe is the fact that her attacker got so much attention and took up too much space in her head… he deserved nothing.

An inspirational listen

This was a difficult book to listen to due to the nature of the attacks. I am so sorry and heartbroken for what this beautiful lady and her little girl had to go through. She is truly an inspiration and extremely strong.

Strong and heartbreaking

the story it's self was very heart reaching , she and her family are to be commended , but the reading of the story was I am sorry to was terrible, I felt it was read matter of factly as if was a trouble for her to put any feeling in the reading

the cartography not good

Frank, honest, inspiring and harrowing in equal measures. The strength of Natalie is clear and the unwavering support she has to protect her girls and face her assailant is breathtaking!! Absolutely recommended!!!

Astounding!!

There are lots of things that I would like to comment on regarding the events that unfold in this book but this is probably not the right forum. This book is an emotional and quite intense journey and it had me hooked in from the start. it is very much about the key facts and there are several unanswered questions for me, mainly around the family dynamic of the perpetrator. The author is clearly a tough cookie and I'm not sure the narrator sounded steely enough but that is only from my perspective.

A thought provoking and emotional read
