Summary
Rollicking, no-holds-barred account of New Order's entire history.
Two acclaimed albums and an upcoming US tour - Joy Division had the world at their feet. Then, on the eve of that tour, the band’s troubled lead singer, Ian Curtis, killed himself. The next time they got together, they were a new band.
That band was New Order - their label was Factory Records; their club, The Haçienda. Their distinctive sound paved the way for the dance music explosion that followed, earning them the reputation as one of the most influential bands of their generation and changing the course of popular music.
Following on from his best-selling titles The Haçienda and Unknown Pleasures, Peter Hook has written a rollicking, no-holds-barred account of the band's entire history. Substance is packed with never-before-seen detail, discographies and technical information. This is possibly the most entertaining memoir ever written by a British musician.

Schools out for Sumner..see what I did there
Well written and read by Hooky. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Some hilarious stories! Am very wary of reading Barney’s book now though, as I don’t want to ruin the impression I have of him being a complete spoilt twat! Sorry, Bernard.

A Great Storyteller
First of all, if you’ve not read Unknown Pleasures: Inside Joy Division, read that first!
This is a such a fascinating listen. It puts you in the heart of the greatest era for music, in the greatest city, with one of the greatest bands.
But, wow, what a dysfunctional lot they were. And I’ll be honest, a lot of the stories are toe curling. There was some terrible behaviour - if you offend easily, you might want to prepare yourself.
Hooky is a fantastic storyteller. He’s funny, charismatic, self-deprecating, brutally honest and occasionally grumpy. You might not agree with some of the stuff he says, but having a window into his life with New Order is endlessly entertaining.
His narration is perfect. You feel like you’re sat in the pub with him as he regales his stories.
A must for all music fans.

Very entertaining and a bit of an eye opener!
What I liked most was the way this was told. It really did feel like he was telling the story off pat, rather than reading out his book. Very natural and innately humorous. It was entertaining throughout; long yes, but that was okay because it was all enjoyable. Also a big eye opener for me. I like to think I am fairly street wise (without the indulgences) but I was constantly incredulous. The doctor in me was shocked at just how much their bodies were abused with substances (no pun intended) and yet they mostly still lived to tell the tale. Pretty lucky, all things considered. All in all a ‘must listen’ and definitely listen rather than just read.

I loved this book
I listened to it 5 times 😊 Read by the author (Hooky) He’s an excellent reader. It’s just like he’s in the room talking to you. I’m not going to say too much and spoil it for you. But I am going to say that everyone needs this book in their life. It’s awesome!

Nice to know Peter got his spanners checked
Thanks to Hooky I play the bass, quite badly. Not sure that he should have a shed.
