Jilly Cooper's legendary hero returns!

Rupert Campbell-Black, undefeated race-horse owner and handsomest man in the world, is in the darkest of places. His adored wife, Taggie, is about to undergo chemotherapy, his beloved horse Love Rat has died, and now his daughter Bianca wants him to buy a languishing local football club - a sport Rupert knows nothing about - so she can return to Rutshire with her football star husband.

Rupert's first impressions of Searston Rovers are distinctly unfavourable. But swayed by Bianca and Taggie, soon Rupert has signed the deal. As Searston's new owner, he won't stand for anything less than victory in the Premier League, despite the odds being stacked against him. With help from the club's ravishing and adorable secretary, Tember West, Rupert sets out to mastermind Searston's rise to the top, starting with taking charge of the players - much to the fury of Searston's manager.

The rival football club and their corrupt dealings aren't going to make it easy for him either - and they have a history of foul play. Let the sabotage and scandal begin...

Great book dreadful narration

Absolutely adore jilly Cooper. But had to stop audible and buy the hard back copy because I couldn’t stand the narrator’s voice. She was dreadful!
Loved the book though from start to finish

Like old times

It was lovely to catch up with Rupert and company after so long and I was not disappointed. I did not like the accent for Taggy but otherwise super

Tackle

Another excellent book in the Rutshire chronicles. Have enjoyed reading and listening to them all .My only criticisms are that some of the narrators voices and accents felt poor and patronising. Also the book concluded very quickly compared to other books in the series . I expected more development of the sub plots . I guess that’s down to Jilly’s age and concentration. Still great fun.

A walk down memory lane!

Brilliant new twist, with favourite characters, plus easy listening and well narrated. Thoroughly enjoyed - highly recommend to JC fans.

waow waow waow!!!

Jilly Cooper definitely outdid herself in this story. for me it's certainly the best so far of all her books as well as the Rupert Campbell series.

A nice roundup to finish it off

This brings together all the small story lines that have been running throughout the series and rounds it off. Delivered on Jilly Coopers usual wonderful way. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Nostalgic and fun

Mostly thoroughly enjoyed. So much to remember from the beginnings of these wonderful characters, in a colourful glorious world. Brought to life once again.
But had to grin and bear it with the narration - sadly, it seemed like Katherine Parkinson was taking the pee out of it all a bit with her narration.

potentially good story spoiled by poor narrator

Could have been a more entertaining book spoiled by very poor narration, many of the voices were irritating with some very strange accents. Perhaps it would be better to avoid the audible/whisper sync versions and just buy the hardback version.

A warm hug from Jilly Cooper

Reading a Jilly Cooper novel is like coming home to a warm hug - not the fanciest of homes, but warm and comfy anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed this latest installment, catching up with old characters and meeting new ones, and Jilly's trademark writing style. Although much shorter than previous novels, the story was still engaging and well-told. I particularly enjoyed the narration - Katherine Parkinson did an outstanding job with the multitude of accents and hit just the right note.
