Summary

Hi. I hope you're ok.

My name's Joe, and I have one job, every day: don't kill myself.

I live with a complex mental illness called Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

15% of people with BPD die by suicide, and 40% try.

I'm already in the 40%. My job is to keep out of the 15%.

In this book I want to try and explain what life is like when you have a brain that is essentially trying to murder you every day. It's a collection of the funny, sad and shocking stuff that has happened to me along the way.

Writing this book has been the hardest thing I've ever done. It had to be dragged into the world, with my condition telling me that every single word, sentence and chapter was terrible and would make strangers walk up to me in the street and punch me in the face.

But I had run out of options. I'd done everything I 'd been told to do and I still thought about killing myself every day. So I wrote this book to save my life.

But if there is even the smallest chance that me telling you how I live with me helps you live with you; if it opens up a space for someone, somewhere to be more honest about their mental illness, it will have been worth it.

Please don't kill yourself.

Love Joe xx

educational for people to understand

As someone struggling with mental health & possible BPD traits, this was a really good listen.

I could relate & understand almost most of what Joe was explaining.

Well done Joe. Amazing book.

I’m so grateful to have discovered Joe Tracini

I would recommend that everyone should read or listen to this book.
It made it even more powerful, to hear Joe telling his own story.
I’m so grateful to have discovered Joe Tracini and that’s not because I can possibly understand what he goes through day to day.
I’m very fortunate to be well.
Yes, I’ve had some anxiety and felt a bit ‘low’ every now and then, but I am well.
The reason I feel fortunate is that I want to understand and I want to learn what I can possibly do when I meet someone who is struggling with their mental health.
I don’t want to walk away, but I also don’t want to put my foot in it.
Joe has taught me lots of lessons and I’ll be ever grateful.
I’ve lost more than one friend to suicide and if I could have done anything to help I would have done, but they all kept it to themselves.
Thank you Joe.
I, for one, want you in the world and if I ever bump in to you in a shop of any kind, I will say hello.
Thank you for this book Joe.
Thank you. X

Heartbreaking yet inspirational!

Absolutely cannot love this book any more, god bless you Joe, so brave. A brutally honest book. I sincerely hope by getting it out there for all to read, it will help you heal. I also hope “Richard” gets jail time.

Brilliant

I found Joe, like many did, during lockdown. His dance tutorials are still some of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

My daughter then discovered Dengineers and we were both very excited that the man who did the funny dances was a presenter. But I knew what he was about by then and could see when he was struggling - knowing but not understanding what was going on in his head - I admired him all the more for being able to, outwardly, function.

I knew I’d get this audible version as soon as I could and I’m so glad I did. His reading of it brings so much more than mine would have. I laughed with him, cried, a lot, with him and despite how he feels about himself, none of it made me like him any less.

What he goes through is complicated and I’ll never pretend to understand it but how he still manages to make people laugh and cry while bringing awareness with his amazing talent is commendable.

Whether you are or you know someone with BPD or not; whether you’re familiar with Joe’s work or not, I would recommend this book.

A realistic glimpse into life with BPD

I am going to get a physical version of this book because there are so many parts I wanted to highlight and refer back to.
It’s raw, painful, funny and brutally honest about what it’s like living with BPD. An essential read for people with BPD and their friends and family.

How do you laugh about suicide?

Joe is an amazing author and his performance in this book was amazing. At times there's nothing to feel except sadness as he recalls his battles with mental illness but this is interspersed with some of the most creative language to hilariously describe situations he has found himself in. You don't need to feel suicidal to listen, it is equally as helpful to someone who isn't but may have in the past or in the future come across a loved one who is. And his videos on Twitter are some of the funniest I've ever watched! Thanks Joe!
