Summary

For over two decades, The Addictive Personality has helped people understand the process of addiction. Now, through this second edition, author Craig Nakken brings new depth and dimension to our understanding of how an individual becomes an addict. Going beyond the definition that limits dependency to the realm of alcohol and other drugs, Nakken uncovers the common denominator of all addiction and describes how the process is progressive.

Through research and practical experience, Nakken sheds new light on:

  • Genetic factors tied to addiction
  • Cultural influences on addictive behaviors
  • The progressive nature of the disease
  • Steps to a successful recovery

The author examines how addictions start, how society pushes people toward addiction, and what happens inside those who become addicted. This new edition will help anyone seeking a better understanding of the addictive process and its impact on our lives.

Fantastic book

In my studies to understand more about the addictive mind this book has offered me a fantastic insight into this problem.
It is without doubt one of the best and easy to understand books I have listed to on this subject

Super helpful and very informative

The readers voice is very clear yet I found it a bit American-glossy-impersonal. With that said, the content is very helpful. As someone who grew up in an abusive, shaming family I recognise the patterns and identification is the first, crucial step in healing. I just wish more of my family would be open to reading this… 🙏🏽 I guess each of us is responsible for our own path only.

and it was all going so well...

This book started as a highly educated guide to healing addition...

and then the added nonsense about "spiritual journey", "devine meaning" and talk of the soul could have been easily replaced with "emotional health", "purpose or passion" and "sense of self"

Disappointing for a book I hoped was a scientific research book.
