About this listen

Murder in a conservatory of carnivorous plants. Bewitching topiary terrors. A sabotaged tea shop. Can Zoe untangle the truth before someone close to her takes the blame?

Alchemist Zoe Faust is no stranger to magical mayhem, but when her boyfriend's new tea shop is vandalized and his special tea blends stolen, she plunges into a baffling mystery to save him. The clues lead Zoe and her gargoyle sidekick Dorian to an eerie mansion high in the Portland hills, filled with creeping carnivorous plants and enigmatic topiary monsters.

When they stumble across a corpse in the conservatory that appears to have been killed by sinister shrubbery, an estranged member of the family is implicated in the murder. Can Zoe use her alchemical skills to catch the real killer while navigating crafty alchemists and killer plants?

The seventh installment in the multi-award-winning Accidental Alchemist Mystery series finds Zoe and Dorian battling carnivorous plants and a killer hiding in the wicked weeds of this closed circle whodunit. Full of laugh-out-loud humor and spine-tingling fantasy elements, this lighthearted mystery will leave listeners racing through the conservatory’s vines to the end of this killer story.

The joy continues.

By joy I mean the happiness I feel listening to Julia Motyka narrate this series. I love characters, the mysteries and the warmth in the storytelling.

Another excellent instalment

I have loved every single book in this series and was counting down the days until this one was released. It was a great story with a lot of our favourite characters, but I did miss Brixton and his pals who don’t feature in this story other than a few fleeting references. Still a 10/10 from me. Can’t wait for the next one.

I missed Brixton, Veronica and Ethan though :(

Fact and fiction perfectly blended.

After listening to the other books in the series, you get used to the characters and their voices, mannerisms, and personalities. Getting totally immersed in their lives and experiences is like you could be living your life with them whilst listening. Very entertaining and enjoyable. I’ve listened to these so many time that I can’t wait for the next instalment. Only one problem, Nicolas has change accents in this book to semi British, German with a touch of Russian…….. Keep up the good work Gigi, these stories and made me smile during my darkest days and for that I thank you. I’m now going to put the kettle on for a cup of Yorkshire Tea. X

Monsters and...

I was hooked from the very start. An accidental alchemist Mystery series is faboulous!
I think one of my very favourite things is the charecters seem so real and aren't "snarky" to one another. They have lives beyond drinking tea, are described so well I feel that I know them and yes, there is a real life gargoyle and I believe in him too!
The narrator could not be more perfect! Her voicing the characters is absoluter perfection!
I cannot wait for the next book!

It’s a really good series but…

The series is great. Very different from other books I go through so a nice breather from other genres and great fun to sink into. However, once again the author seems to like to remind her readers every chapter of things we already know about. You’d think by this far in, we don’t need to be reminded that Dorian is a living Gargoyle. It’s not the worst but every chapter seems to be “by the way, if you didn’t know, I’m 300 years old” a fun book for sure, not the best of the series. Max’s detective skills are on existent in this book, which is a shame.

fragmented yet knitted, integrated, creating colourful, exciting tapestry chaos/ reason.

the way that circumstances put people together, who wanted to meet but were reluctant to. how judgement and our own prejudice as well as ideas influence what we accept as reality and that challenging those are not only a good idea, but it broadens our mind, soul and our understanding of ourselves as well as others.
