About this listen
Nicholas Flamel appeared in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter - but did you know he really lived? And his secrets aren't safe! Discover the truth in book one of the New York Times best-selling series The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel.
The truth: Nicholas Flamel's tomb is empty.
The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives.
Nicholas Flamel is the greatest Alchemyst to ever live. The records show that he died in 1418, but what if he's actually been making the elixir of life for centuries?
The secrets to eternal life are hidden within the book he protects - the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed, and in the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it.
There is one hope. If the prophecy is true, Sophie and Josh Newman have the power to save everyone. Now they just have to learn to use it.
“The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel has everything you loved about Harry Potter, including magic, mystery, and a constant battle of good versus evil.” (Bustle)

It was a good story in itself but I just felt it was a thin storyline that was littered with complications.
Rather disappointed

These things make a big difference. Imagine if Stephen Fry didn’t narrate all of the HP books? It would be really weird
Good book, shame they change narrators during the series

What did you like most about The Alchemyst?
Fast paced throughout, and a complete fantasy world that took me away from the mundane for a while!Any additional comments?
This obviously revolves around Nicholas Flamel, who JK Rowling also mentions in Harry Potter - these books are not linked in any way as Nicholas Flamel is a real person that both authors have decided to concoct a story around. Whilst this book is fantasy/witches/wizards etc I would say it was for older than the first 3 or 4 Harry Potter's, equally I am in my 30's and enjoyed it! It's easy reading at a good pace with a good plot, I'd recommend it!Enjoyable fantasy story for older children

The narrator does an excellent job except for one aspect. Why would he voice the Valkyrie with voices from India? I would have thought, seeing as they are from Norse mythology, that a Scandinavian type of accent would have been appropriate!
An entertaining and lightweight book.
Enjoyable and fantastic.
