About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

If you could open a door to anywhere, where would you go?

In New York City, bookseller Cassie Andrews is living an unassuming life when she is given a gift by a favourite customer. It's a book - an unusual book, full of strange writing and mysterious drawings. And at the very front there is a handwritten message to Cassie, telling her that this is the Book of Doors, and that any door is every door.

What Cassie is about to discover is that the Book of Doors is a special book that bestows an extraordinary powers on whoever possesses it, and soon she and her best friend Izzy are exploring all that the Book of Doors can do, swept away from their quiet lives by the possibilities of travelling to anywhere they want.

But the Book of Doors is not the only magical book in the world. There are other books that can do wondrous and dreadful things when wielded by dangerous and ruthless individuals - individuals who crave what Cassie now possesses.

Suddenly Cassie and Izzy are confronted by violence and danger, and the only person who can help them is, it seems, Drummond Fox. He is a man fleeing his own demons - a man with his own secret library of magical books that he has hidden away in the shadows for safekeeping. Because there is a nameless evil out there that is hunting them all...

Because some doors should never be opened.

Literally from page 1 this book had my complete attention. So different from anything else I've read lately, this adventure had me grasped in its unfolding telling. Goodness knows how the author managed to produce & deliver such a compelling tale with parallels to the nature of the real world.
Highly recommended.

Only finished this book yesterday but I already want to listen again!

Magical, twists and turns at every corner and there was no guessing the conclusion. The characters where as spellbinding as the books.

Can't wait to step back through The Book of Doors again soon 😊

This is the best book I’ve listened to in a long time, the plot kept me engaged, I grew fond of the characters and above all it was beautifully narrated. Highly recommended

Loved the concept, the narrator and the characters. Very skilfully woven and took me everywhere it went in technicolour.

Entertaining, inventive and imaginative story, but it felt over long at times. Enjoyed it overall.

talented reader, many accents used

What a brilliant sci fi. Thriller of a book that mixes generations and builds beautiful and shocking descriptions in my mind. I’ll be first in line for any new books from this author!

Riveting Captivating Book

The structure is similar to the Time Traveller’s Wife, well thought out although occasionally a bit hastily convenient. I didn’t think the origin story of the books was at all convincing but overall the story held my attention.

A diverting story

Beautifully punctuated with metaphors and similes the Book of Doors takes us in a journey like no other through time and place. Bravo. As an aside, it would make a great film!

Seldom do I find a great story combined with an expert voice actress. This one has it in spades. Enjoy- you're in for a treat!
