About this listen

In the wild heart of Wales, terror stalks the open moor.

In the remote and unforgiving Cambrian Mountains, two bodies are found, sparking fears that a long-buried nightmare has returned. DCI Warlow is plunged into a chilling mystery, hunting a murderer who disappeared without a trace—leaving only blood and silence behind.

As Warlow’s team battles against mounting pressure, they face a haunting question: is this the work of a twisted imitator, or has The Bowman, a ruthless killer thought to be gone forever, resurfaced?

With each dark discovery, they’re pulled deeper into a case where the land itself seems to conspire against them—and the answers may come at a deadly cost.

Edge of the seat crime fiction. The Bowman is the 15th riveting novel from bestselling crime author, Rhys Dylan, perfect for fans of JD Kirk, Simon McCleave, and Peter Robinson

Great storyline that I couldn’t put down, consequently I have a bad case of sleep deprivation! Good to hear Gil on form - he has a great turn of phrase and one liners. Narration is excellent and hits all the right notes in terms of accents. Can’t wait to listen to the next one but hope all the key characters come through unscathed - except of course for two shoes! She deserves to come to a sticky end!

Gripping and one of the best yet!

Brilliant book, full of rich characters and a plot that twists and turns. The narration was wonderful and brings the whole thing to life.

A really good pacy story full of twists and turns. Just keep them coming. Great characters.

A cracker

All of the books in this series are brilliantly written and narrated amazingly well by Tobias Weatherburn.
They have all been immediate listens for me, as soon as a new one is released on Audible.
This latest installment was just as excellent as the previous books. Plenty of laugh out loud moments, provided by the well written banter between all of the main characters, and a cracking plot to keep you guessing as the team works to solve the newest murder case. Each book also contains a couple of loathsome ongoing characters that make you angry on behalf of Evan and his team.

Such an excellent series ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good but not quite to the usual standard. The balance between the case and the personal too heavy on the personal to me. As usual the narrator’s somewhat eccentric emphasis in phrases occasionally grates, but not knowing how to pronounce Wear, as in Tyne and Wear, to sound like the word ‘weir’and not ‘where’ is just bizarre.

Close but no cigar

As usual in this series the tale of gruesome murder is told with a good deal of warmth and humour. There is great mystery and turmoil tempered by the actions of a great team whose genuine humanity and honourable behaviour in looking out for the victims of crime and one another comes with a healthy dose of black humour to off set the dire nature of the crimes they investigate.

Another brilliant tale in this addictive series.

I've listened to every book in the series. This feels like one of the weaker episodes - with the team being more reactive to events than investigating. Also, the worrying trend of Rhys Dylan putting his own unkind views in the mouth of his characters seems to have increased in this book. It's been going on a while out of context. But I noticed it more this time.

These are great characters and are smart and often kind and thoughtful. To have the author insert "you can't say anything anymore" type Daily Mail viewpoints into their mouth - especially about immigration and mental health/neurodiversity is rather unpleasant. It's also rather jarring. Record scratch, you're straight out of the narrative.

These views don't even make sense for otherwise kind characters like Gil. You can't show characters being caring and looking out for vulnerable kids, and those in danger, and then the next minute have them imply neurodiversity is trendy and made up. Look, I'm not saying we shouldn't have politics in art, we definitely should. But forcing your awful opinions into characters who are clearly too nice to share them, even though you created those characters. just means the book doesn't ring true,

Good, but not the best in the series

I loved all of it. Brilliant story line with great characters. I can’t wait for the next one!

The voices of the characters

This wasn’t bad as a mystery, but the author’s tendency to dump in a rant about cancel culture or inclusivity or gender is just getting more bizarre and cumbersome - the characters began the series as an interesting mix, which have become cliched and limited as they trade the same talking points. It’s almost never brought on by the plot or setting, just like a cranky rant at social media external to the book.

The reasons I’ve stuck with it (other than liking procedurals generally) are those initial characters, and the gorgeous presence of the Welsh landscape and language, which were so vivid from the very first in the series. It’s such a pity that it’s at odds with the airless, repetitive conversations happening within the setting.
