About this listen
Southend-on-Sea, Essex: Detective Sergeant Tomek Bowen — driven, dogged, and haunted by the death of his brother — is called to one of the most shocking crime scenes he has ever seen. A man has been ritualistically murdered and dumped in an allotment near the local airport. Early investigations indicate this was a man with a past. A past that earned him many enemies.
But when another victim is found murdered under similar circumstances, it becomes clear that Bowen is on the trail of a serial offender. A vigilante killer targeting convicted rapists and paedophiles who have been recently released back into the community.
But when the community welcomes the killings with open arms, everyone becomes a suspect…
Death’s Justice is the unforgettable first book in the DS Tomek Bowen Essex Murder Mystery series by Jack Probyn. Filled with twists, peppered with romance and flavoured with ounces of dark humour, this fast-paced British detective novel will keep you guessing until the very end when the final shocking twist is revealed. Perfect for fans of JD Kirk, JM Dalgliesh, TG Reid, Simon McCleave and Rachel Mclean.

great story and narration
It's no secret that I already love this series and tell everyone to read it, so imagine my delight when the first audiobook came out!
Scott's narration of the plot is excellent. He really brings the despair and the drama alive. My main (only) gripe is that book 2 isn't ready yet. What are you doing, Scott? Get on with it!

really enjoyable
This was entertaining and kept me engaged. it was dark and the themes were thoroughly explained. the narration worked, it had the non English element which worked well as Tomas was brought up in a Polish family.

A great opening to a new series.
A recently released predator waits at night for the seven-year-old girl he expects to arrive. Instead it is death that greets him in a very grisly manner and the case falls to Southend CID which includes DS Tomek Bowen, a good but flawed detective who still has nightmares about his lack of identification of his brother’s killer when he was a young boy. It’s not long before another ex-prisoner with a similar history of depraved crimes is found at his home, murdered in the same way. Most of the team feel these men got what they deserve, a view shared by the general public, but any murder has to be investigated and the idea that a vigilante is using a child to lure their victims is not a nice one in a case that touches everyone.
Along with the rest of the team, the rather complex character of Tomek slowly grew on me as the story progressed and we hear more about the events which have shaped his life as he juggles his dislike of his DI, his budding romance and this grim case with a twisty narrative and a shocking conclusion. By the end I really liked Tomek and his colleagues as they all proved their worth. A very good opening to a new series and I look forward to the next story.
The narrator does an excellent job of bringing these new characters to life and made listening a pleasure.
