About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
The chilling serial killer thriller from the co-host of chart-topping podcast Morbid.
Wren was never afraid of the dark.
Until she learnt that some monsters are real...
In deep Louisiana, a serial killer with a taste for medical experimentation is completing his most ambitious project yet. The media call him 'The Butcher'—and, so far, he's proved impossible to catch.
With her encyclopedic knowledge of humanity's darkest minds, and years of experience examining their victims, forensic pathologist Dr Wren Muller is the best there is. The longer the Butcher's killing spree continues, the more determined she is to bring him to justice. And yet, he continues to elude her.
As body after body pile up on Wren's examination table, her obsession grows. Pressure to put an end to the slaughter mounts. And her enemy becomes more brazen.
How far is Wren willing to go to draw the Butcher into the light?
An addictive listen with straight-from-the-morgue details only an autopsy technician could provide, The Butcher and the Wren promises to ensnare all who enter.

"Can a medical examiner outsmart a serial killer? The Butcher and the Wren will keep you waiting for an answer until the last bloody page. Prepare to be disturbed. A deliciously dark debut." (Rea Frey, bestselling author for Not Her Daughter and Secrets of Our House)

Fabulous
I chose this book as im a fellow morbid weirdo and i wanted to support. Im very glad I did as i loved this so much. My only gripe was it ended and it completely caught me off guard and im usually quite good at spotting something like that. I'm ready for the next one please! The knowledge of the author really shows and sets a scene. Brilliant, I would recommend

Great twist
At first I wasn’t sure on the styles of writing but after a few chapters I was hooked and really couldn’t wait to see what happened next.

Wren!
There was nothing to did dislike, very well written, you go on an roller coaster of loving the story to sittibgbin the edge of your seat to crying, the teamwork and love and support that wrens crew shown her was amazing to read. The "villain" was very interesting, I love how he was writtennandni found myself going from thinking how clever he was to hiw evil he was and then back to how clever he was. He's twisted but clever, he's so sure of himself and his abilities yet he makes little mistakes and becomes insecure and then ending is perfectly set up for book no2, September can't cone quick enough. If alaina ever reads this I want her to know that not only do I think she's an amazing author but she's an amazing person too, Morbid is my got to podcast!!! 5 star read!

took a minute to get into but worth it
loved hearing Alaina's voice come through in the words, but the story takes a little bit to get into - once I did though it was great! well worth a listen on a solo car journey!

Great!
A solid crime novel, I enjoyed the narration. Liked the dichotomy between the protagonist and villain.
