About this listen
A mysterious castle. A beautiful wedding. A cold-blooded murder....
Inspector David Graham wanted to get away from the crime and corruption of the big city. Now, he is content to lead a small group of officers in the tiny coastal town of Gorey. But Inspector Graham’s peaceful life is about to come to a screeching halt.
As he inspects the grounds surrounding the imposing Orgueil castle, Graham stumbles upon a screaming woman kneeling beside a man’s corpse. Hearing the woman’s hysterical cries, Graham rushes to assist her–and to start gathering clues. Was it suicide? An accident? Or something far more nefarious?
The Case of the Fallen Hero is the third book in this best-selling traditional British detective mystery series with a modern twist. Fans of Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, and CSI will want to share a sip of tea with Detective Inspector Graham and his team as they become like friends.
©2016 Alison Golden (P)2023 Alison GoldenBut in fact at least half of it is taken up with a totally unrelated subplot about missing musicians. Then there's a long epilogue in which the fate of all the participants of both stories is told, almost like reading a list of events. Then the last ten minutes is a preview of the next book in the series.
So, all in all, the actual murder mystery is probably only about 2hrs or so long and is very lightweight as a result.
The narrator is not my favourite but does a decent job.
Fortunately I bought this book at a cheaper price by borrowing the Kindle book first. Of course that also means I can't return the book for a refund (you can only return books bought with a credit) which is the main reason I persevered to the end.
If you're looking for something quick and undemanding to listen to this could be for you - but I don't think it's worth a full credit.
Too much padding to an already short story

inspector Graham is looking forward to his day off, giving him time to explore Orgueil castle. Instead he comes across a woman leaning over a dead body. The couple only married the day before and instead of enjoying there honeymoon Graham is investigating there past. Was it an accident? suicide? Or even murder? The family has a strange past and a long history of tragedy that he will have to unravel. At the same time the quartet that played at the wedding have gone missing and Graham assigns his constables to find them while he finds a killer.
I liked the narrator, he is very talented and gives each character there own voice. He even had to do some french accents to bring the story alive.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
