Summary
While the Oldest Member sits in the clubhouse quoting Marcus Aurelius on patience and wisdom, outside on the green the fiercest human passions burn. All kinds of human life are here, from the cocky professional Sandy McHoots to the shy Ramsden Waters, whose only consolation is golf. Even golf-haters will not be able to resist stories that so perfectly blend physical farce with verbal wit and a gallery of unforgettable characters.

Light and amusing though with production problems
Frederick Davidson's dry narration perfectly suits these whimsical stories, the humour of which can easily escape the inattentive ear. However this is clearly a lazy transcription from a tape or CD version as there are frequent repeats of a few seconds every so often.

Great stories
I'm not interested in golf at all, but I very much enjoyed this collection of golf related stories, better than I expected even though I'm a great fan of Wodehouse. I'm not keen on this narrator, and there are some production quality issues. Audio level fades for a couple of seconds sometimes, and there are several places where a sentence is repeated. I'd enjoy a technically better recording by a more suitable narrator. This narrator has a supercilious tone and ends most sentences with a slight rising inflexion, except when he ends with an exaggerated falling inflexion for no particular reason.

Excellent from tee to green
This is Wodehouse at his best with entertaining golf-related stories from a true devotee. There is one minor quibble with the audio editing as there are several places where the odd sentence or two are repeated.

enjoyable, lighthearted, typical Wodehouse
even as a non golf fan (never played in my life) I found this selection of Golf inspired tales highly amusing. exactly the type of story you'd expect from Wodehouse - if you've read any before, you've a fair idea what you are getting.
definitely worth a listen

I prefer the stories read by Jonathon Cecil
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Only the narrator, the stories are very entertaining.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Clicking of Cuthbert?
All of the stories are very well written. There is no author of the genre to compare with P G Wodehouse.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator sounds too pompous.
Any additional comments?
I prefer the delivery of Jonathon Cecil.

classic Wodehouse
love the stories, a few repeated phrases though which can be rather annoying. I will save to listen again.

Way Too Many Mulligans
Frederick Davidson (David Case) is a true master and pioneer of the audio book performance. His PG Wodehouse readings are sublime. Sadly, he is no longer with us - he succumbed, ironically, to throat cancer and died being unable to speak as his larynx had been removed. Gone forever but his voice lives on with audible.
This collection of short stories is a must - even if you need to be a golf fan. Lovely stories beautifully read.
However, the editing of this audiobook is atrocious: Sloppy and untidy. Almost every story has repeated lines in it. I know how this happens and it’s easy to make this mistake if you are rushing an edit with badly recorded time codes. That said this is no excuse.
Pity.
