About this listen

A shockingcrime thriller from top 50 bestselling author, Ross Greenwood

It's hard to live when you think you deserve to die…

When a tired old inmate is found dead in his cell, the prison is obligated to investigate and so DI Barton attends. The men he interviews have been convicted of some of the worst things a human being can do, but it appears likely that the death was due to natural causes.

When the house of the dead man is burgled and that crime is followed by a suspicious fire, Barton desperately needs to speak to his widow, but she’s nowhere to be found.

In the space of twenty-four hours, everyone he wants to talk to has vanished. Then he receives some post which makes him believe he could be the next to disappear.

Barton’s investigation goes full circle, through a series of brutal murders, back to the prison, and all signs are pointing to the fact that he’s made a terrible mistake.

There’s a violent killer on the loose, who wants everyone to learn that some people deserve to die.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book, but I got lost amid all the characters and their nicknames. The story is very good, and brilliantly narrated.

Rather a lot of characters

If you've read the previous 3 novels then you know the style by now. This one takes you on a slightly different journey whilst using the same technique of telling the story from alternating points of view between DI Barton and the perpetrator. What i particularly like about the Barton novels is the detailed back story of the perpetrator which provides at least some understanding of their motivation. The only downside is that it's such an easy listen it's over before you know it.

A Slightly Different Take

loved it and was hooked from the first page. the narrator was engaging to listen to and after reading the previous 3 books in the series I think this was the best one.

I really enjoyed this book and actually laughed when Zander and Barton had a conversation about ‘a foot’. Best in the series yet!

Great Book

Good story if a little horrifying, its seems like a look into the minds of prisoners and in a few cases their life before prison and in some cases very sad twisting their minds beyond imagination well written and the narrator David Thorpe is excellent.

Insight into police investigation

After a couple of chapters I decided that I didn’t like this book so very much, but I’m not one for giving up on a book. I am so very pleased that I carried on with it. It transpired into an excellent story. Definitely a book to keep you wondering and it’s very clever in how it all comes together. A brilliant listen.

Excellent

I accidentally came across this author in Death at Paradise Park and I'm glad I did. This is another great story accompanied by very good narration- which let's face it can ruin some otherwise good audiobooks. Highly recommended this author and narrator.

Brilliant
