Summary
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a novel about a woman who needs nothing, a man who sees everything, and the web of deceit, greed and danger that brings them together - and could tear them apart...
When professional house-sitter Lila Emerson witnesses a murder/suicide from her current apartment-sitting job, life as she knows it takes a dramatic turn. Suddenly, the woman with no permanent ties finds herself almost wishing for one...
Artist Ashton Archer knows his brother isn’t capable of violence - against himself or others. He recruits Lila, the only eyewitness, to help him uncover what happened. Chalking up their intense attraction to the heat of the moment, Lila agrees to help Ash try to find out who murdered his brother and why. From the penthouses of Manhattan to grand Italian villas, their investigation draws them into a rarefied circle where priceless antiques are bought, sold, gambled away and stolen; where what you possess is who you are; and where what you desire becomes a deadly obsession...
Critic reviews
“Roberts is performing at the top of her literary game…An addictive blend of sleek suspense and sophisticated romance that would make Hitchcock proud.”—Booklist (starred review)
“A pair of strong, commitment-averse protagonists, vividly drawn villains—a classy, stunningly beautiful, sociopathic assassin and a soulless recluse, in particular—an abundance of Fabergé egg history and a plot that keeps readers on edge add up to another classic for Roberts.”—Library Journal
“Sizzling suspense…Will keep readers riveted.”—Publishers Weekly

Loved it
The story ducks and dives through the plot. Sure we know where it ends but a good get there.
Liked the narrator too.

Nora Robert’s always delivers
Great story, believable characters and actually thought one narrator for all characters worked well. Recommend.

Totally absorbing
Yet again Nora Roberts pulls you into a great story and you find that you don't want to stop listening as it is so absorbing, but then as you near the end you find yourself wishing it was part of a series so that you can continue in their lives.
Not wanting to print any spoilers I will just say that the story is fast with turns and bends - its a bit like a modern day Heart to Heart story but with out the dog and Max

Not my usual type of book
Not the type of book I usually listen to but what is wrong with a bit of escapism. Who wouldn't want to meet a rich, handsome, considerate artist and have an adventure with him? Light listening if you do not want to concentrate too much

Good!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If they like very long crime mysteries!
What about Julia Whelan’s performance did you like?
She read with excellent timing and tone, but it took many chapters for me to get used to her voicing the men. They all sounded like they had smoked too much the night before and Ashton Archer sounded like he had just be woken after a rough night and insufficient sleep!
Any additional comments?
It was a good tale, with well written characters, but it was a little long and drawn-out.

Fab Romantic Crime Novel
This was a great audible book, great plot line with plenty of twists. Wasn't too sure of the ending, a little too soppy for me, but as a whole, I would recommend this book.

Romantic thriller with twists and turns
More twists and turns than I expected but it made it far more enjoyable. Nice to have a lead character who is feisty but respected. Enjoyable and as usual for Nora Robert’s right on the mark.

The Collector Of What?!
I wanted some 'light' listening and so tried this book.
The ending was a bit 'to be expected' for me, but I enjoyed some of the twists, along the way.
I sometimes had to listen to the passage a few times, to catch the words.
A fairly simple, plot.
Perfect for a day of drudgery!
