Summary

Coming soon: a documentary series featuring the book!

Koh Tao, a small island in the Gulf of Thailand, surrounded by pristine beaches, swathed in sunshine, and a mecca for tourists, divers and backpackers. But “Turtle Island” has its dark side. In 2014, Koh Tao was the site of the brutal double murders of two British backpackers, but theirs weren’t the only suspicious backpacker deaths.

My name is Suzanne Buchanan. I am the former owner and editor of the Samui Times, a news publication on Koh Samui, and covered the stories of the so-called “backpacker murders” and other suspicious deaths. Although I am a British citizen, because of my investigation and stories, as well as my support for the two Burmese migrant workers sentenced to death for the murders, I had to flee Thailand for my own safety. There is currently an active warrant for my arrest should I return to Thailand, which had been my home for more than twenty years, and I continue to receive death threats.

In The Curse of the Turtle, listeners can make up their own minds on who is responsible for the murders that so devastated the victims’ families. Were the Burmese migrant workers responsible? Or were the powerful, tribal families who run Koh Tao involved? And if so, were they aided by corrupt law enforcement?

Informative but awful choice of narrator

Informative, well-written and seemingly well-researched Appallingly amateur narrator though. The tone of the voice is totally of t the mark for the story behind told and the attempted accents are laughable!

A bit dragged out

I heard Sue interviewed on a podcast and was really interested. Unfortunately story dragged out and it felt at times like a personal search for recognition and dislike agenda against Andy. He sounds flaky as hell but I don't need to hear about it repeatedly, nor how much money/fundraising Sue gave to the B2. Narrator is horrific, and her attempt at accents, particularly Asian accents, borders on offensive.

Very informative, but a bit boring

I love the fact that this has a lot of information, but found the information repeating throughout far too much. On the whole it is a very sad story, and I'm glad that someone had those poor mens backs.

I know there are some lawyers who are a bit flaky, but Andy needed to be in prison with the two men he did nothing for.

More information then you may find online.

Please enough with trying to make accents in regards to peoples reports or statements, Sounds just awful like your reading a bedtime fairytale to a four year old.

The curse of the turtle

It’s an interesting story. However it felt like a vanity project for the author. Who let’s be honest actually let down the B2 massively. If they had stuck with their guilty plea. They would be back living their lives as free men. Nothing was achieved by using them as Martyrs other than their incarceration.

Rather drawn out and repetitive

Awful narration. The attempts at voices were beyond abominable. The story repeated the same information over and over. The story could have been so much more captivating as there was so much information that was really interesting. The terrible deaths, the corruption and lies. The plight of the families. The plight of the accused . Such a shame as it had elements that could have made it great.
