About this listen

Siege of Terra Book 8, Part 1

The arch-traitor Horus Lupercal's forces have bombarded Terra and the Imperial Palace lies in ruins. With the Emperor's dream in tatters, he seeks only to rob Chaos of its ultimate victory...

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It's the beginning of the ultimate conclusion to the Horus Heresy, and hope still remains for the Loyalists! The Emperor plans a gambit that could snatch victory from the jaws of defeat – but at what cost?

THE STORY

There is no way out.

The walls have fallen, the gates are breached, and the defenders are slain. It is the end and the death. After seven brutal years of civil war, the Warmaster stands on the verge of victory. Horus Lupercal, once beloved son, has come to murder his father. The Emperor, a shining beacon of hope to many, an unscrupulous tyrant to others, must die. The lives of uncountable numbers have been extinguished and even primarchs, once thought immortal, have been laid low. The Emperor's dream lies in tatters, but there remains a sliver of hope.

Now, at the final hour of the final day, the Emperor rises. With him come his Angel, his Praetorian, and his Captain, all determined to enact terrible vengeance. Yet the hope is slim, for the Warmaster sees all and knows all, and the ultimate victory of Chaos is at hand.

There is no way out.

Better than the previous book.

Slow start but does get better. I don't play the tabletop game....but absolutely love the books...slash...audio books.
can't wait for part 2!

Stunning

Dan Abnetts masterstroke brought to life by the legendary Johnathan Keeble. Both together make an absolute piece of art I will never get bored of. Listened to it twice already and cannot wait for part 2. A must for anyone who enjoys the Heresy or 40k

Double dare

This is space opera at its finest .Both author and narrator reach zenith of their art. This book delivers threading plot lines intricately . I really enjoyed it. hopefully the first of a trilogy?

Excellent continuation of the story

Lots of things getting tied up, and some great characterisation. Plus, Keeble is a master.

A satisfying, albeit bloated, beginning of the end

Whilst overall enjoyable, it takes the standard GW formula, of the first two thirds of a book being dedicated to set up and the final third to payoffs, and stretches out the payoffs well beyond their means. This makes for an interesting story in hindsight, but a rather slow burning and occasionally boring conclusion to The Horus Heresy in the moment itself.

And so the end begins

I have read every book, short story and novella in both the Horus Heresy and Siege of Terra series and this is a fitting beginning to the end if ever I heard one.

Dan drops bombs in every chapter, despite Audible getting loads of the titles wrong, keeping the pace up whilst managing to weave another of very disparate threads into a complete and satisfying story.

As with all the other entries in this series Jonathan Keeble has been consistent, flexible and clever with his delivery.

for those of us that know where the story is going there are plenty of big new reveals and information drops. I can't wait now for part 2......

Abnett and Keeble Deliver

Abnett hits that perfect balance of charming characters and storytelling, and signature 40k(30k) grim darkness that made us fall in love with the series back with Horus Rising.

Keeble also comes in with a characteristically strong performance, dripping with atmosphere, to show why he's been the go to narrator and voice actor for the series.
