Summary

Would you risk it all the save your family?

Living in New Zealand, Jack Gee thought he was safe. The beautiful, isolated country had always provided a sense of security. When a virus begins to spread across the globe, he is on a hiking trip in the mountains, blissfully unaware. A desperate message from his wife Dee alerts him to the viral threat that turns humans into apex predators with one purpose - to kill.

The country collapses as Jack races to get home, and when he finally does make it out of the mountains he finds his peaceful life has been shattered. Banding with other survivors, they all must quickly learn how to survive in this new world.

In the fight to stay alive, friendship and family will be tested and new alliances formed. But dangerous new enemies emerge in the war for the future of the country, and the world.

Fantastic storyline.

I was gripping from the very beginning. I became invested in the characters and their battle to survive. The authors descriptions for the of the places and culture really brought this series alive.

Brilliant and original story

I really enjoyed this one; a brilliant and original take on the “zombie” theme. The whole story (all three books) work really well together and are easy to follow, with great action and evolving tension throughout. One of my best Audible options I’ve ever chosen.

3 books - one average, one excellent and one iffy

The first book is a standard end-of-the-world story, nothing special but still good listen. - a bit vanilla.

The second book gets into a lot of action with an excellent storyline.

The third book was ok - it didn't need the storyline of "Dr Moreau", Alpha Monsters just didn't add any value to the story. It got too corny in a lot of places.

It was ok. The endless film and TV reference and the narrator who would have been better at Calm sleep stories made this a little hard to get into

Gripping

I have never listened to a book like this before. I was wary because some of the other reviews aren't great but I thoroughly enjoy the experience. The tension builds well throughout, the story keeps you engaged and it includes a strong female character which is always a win for me. The narration is also great.

devoured

just like a variant would devour its prey l devoured these 3 books. a great take on this genre and the author wasnt afraid to kill characters off... so dont get too attached (although it was hard not to). the battle scenes are so well deacribed i felt anxiety for the characters... which was a first. it was well read and although like maggie, it took me a bit to get use to the NZ accent i hardly notice the difference by the end. i would highly recommend this box set and i look forward to the next installment

Brilliant story telling

So realistically written and a fast moving storytelling with a huge amount of research to get facts correct nothing to dislike

Probably the very best of it’s genre…

If you liked the Mountain Man series you will absolutely love this trilogy.
I just couldn’t stop listening to it!
If it’s not included, then use a credit- it will be one of the best you have spent on Audible…

A Different twist

The fact that it was set in New Zealand makes this very interesting. I often get exasperated with ‘too much soppy’ while the world is ending and authors trying to maintain society’s living standards, knowing dam well that between various humanities natures and psychological miscreants plus having read numerous real life WW2 survivor stories and the evil some people can afflict through greed or fear etc, I find this series refreshingly believable
