About this listen

Two good neighbors make the best of a bad Valentine’s Day in a funny and improbably romantic short story by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Just for the Summer.

It’s Valentine’s Day weekend, and Charlotte and Seth are not looking for romance. Armed with emotional-support bear spray, Charlotte is in self-imposed isolation and on guard from men. Having a stalker can do that to a person’s nerves. Just across the hall and giving off woodsy vibes is Seth, a recently divorced arborist. As in today recently. Heights, he’s fine with. Trust? Not so much. But when disaster traps them one flight up and no way down, an outrageously precarious predicament forces a tree-loving guy and a rattled girl next door to embrace their captivity. Soon their defenses are breaking away. Considering how close they both are to the edge, Charlotte and Seth could be in danger of falling—in love.

Editorial Review

Short but so, so sweet
Abby Jimenez has a way of making me laugh, cry, and fall in love with her characters all at once, and The Fall Risk is no exception. This short but oh so satisfying listen delivers everything I love about her writing—my favorite, of course, being the sharp banter and the romance that feels both unexpected and inevitable. Charlotte is in self-imposed isolation after a terrifying experience, while Seth is freshly divorced and in no mood for romance. But when a Valentine’s Day disaster traps them together, their walls start to come down in ways that neither of them saw coming. Julia Whelan and Connor Crais deliver perfect performances that made every moment—from hilarious to heartfelt—come alive. It’s a quick listen, but one that completely swept me away from the moment I heard its very special dedication. —Patty R., Audible Editor

Short and sweet

Good, quick, easy listen. Would have been good to have a bit more story but then wouldn’t be a short story! I always think it’s tricky when serious topics are included in fiction books, no spoilers but for a short fiction story I think this was done well.

Tree man

Brilliant short story with loads of funny moments. I always like how Abby Jimenez can mix a serious topic into a RomCom book.

Lovely short listen.

Great characters who were fairly believable and described well for the short length of the audiobook. With the exception of the antagonist, there isn't one unlikeable character but it doesn't make the tale either saccharin or twee. There's about the amount of character development you could reasonably expect given the very few days the story happens over and that development feels totally real. Both MCs sound like the kind of people you'd like to meet and get to know. The narration of both characters is great - both actors have lovely, fitting voices and read their parts convincingly. I'll be looking for more (longer) work by Ms Jimenez now. A recommended audiobook.

I loved this short story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another wonderful short story from Abby Jiminez. It's truly amazing how she manages to cram so much story into such a short amount of time!
Wonderful characters and lots of humor, despite the trauma Charlotte was having to live through.
All 4 main characters were Wonderful, and I also loved the Easter Egg update on Holly & John from last year's short story - Worst Wingman Ever 😄
Brilliant writing and excellent narration, I could have heard about their lives for much, much longer. ❤️❤️❤️

great character development in a short time

Thank you, NetGalley for an advanced ARC of this book for an honest review

After reading one of the author's book Last year I enjoyed her writing and the stories that came across in her books because she has really good character growth.

This is a short story about a woman who is being stalked and not able to live a life because she is always running, then we have a guy who got cheated on by his ex-wife... I highly enjoyed reading this and could not put it down, there were some things in this book though that I related to in them talking to each other about things about each g other.

Gorgeous little listen

This was funny, engaging, emotional and the duet narration was perfect. No substance lost due to the short length. Really loved it.
