Summary
Jackman and Evans are back in the latest gripping thriller by Joy Ellis, performed by the incomparable Richard Armitage.
Jackman’s sister-in-law Sarah disappears to London and throws herself into the river. What drove her to this? She was a woman with a seemingly happy homelife and two beloved sons. DI Jackman and DI Evans dig into Sarah’s life. And Jackman realises he knew almost nothing about his sister-in-law’s past.
Then, they discover a woman in a neighbouring village died in similar circumstances. What is the connection to a convicted murderer whose family are convinced he is innocent? Who is really pulling the strings?
Introducing Richard Armitage, our star narrator
Richard is well-known for his array of film, television and theatre work, including The Hobbit, Spooks and The Crucible. His trademark baritone voice has earned him recognition, too, through his performance on many notable audiobooks as well as in TV and radio show narration. This experience shines through in Armitage's gripping performance of the Jackman and Evans series where he plays host to a plethora of characters.
And Joy Ellis, the book's author
Joy Ellis started her career as a flower seller in Mayfair in the 1960s, before going on to open her own florist in Surrey. When the recession hit, Joy had a career change and became a bookseller, and attended a writing course in Greece where she was mentored by Sue Townsend. She now lives in the Fens with her partner Jacqueline, where the flatlands and marshes provide inspiration for her eerie plotlines.

Excellent. Better than the rest.
Very good book, dark, psychological thriller. Well written and as usual for Richard Armitage brilliantly narrated. A superb skilled, sensitive, intelligent voice actor.
I am enjoying Audible books. Thanks

Great story, ending is questionable
Book 4 in the Jackman & Evans series by Joy Ellis.
A good paced story, gripping and as always for the Jackman & Evans series Excellently narrated by Richard Armitage.
The ending is the only questionable bit, but having read ahead I see why it was done this way, book 6 explains the ending of this book(4).
Such a shame that Joy Elis' other 2 series, which Ch I have been told are also excellent - DI Nikki Galena and Matt Ballard, have the worst narrators/ narration ( two different narrators, not Richard Armitage) which makes them impossible to listen to and as I am partially sighted it excludes them for me, as I cannot see to read a physical copy, still hoping one day Audible will actually read the reviews people bother to leave, see all the negative ones based solely on those other narrators destroying excellent stories, band finally Redo them with Richard Armitage or another compétant narrator ( would make sense to have all three series narrated by Richard Armitage as he gets consistently excellent reviews and listeners would already know him from Joy Elis'other works) but I digress..
The story has plenty of murder & intrigue, excellent believable characters, plot, and is gripping.
Highly recommended getting book 6 to go with that s one ( book 4).

No disappointment here!
As always, Joy Ellis has given us a page turner that kept me up far into the night! And Richard Armitage was his usual brilliant self, an excellent narrator who brings the book to life. I have no hesitation in recommending this one.

Want a great police drama
My third Jackman and Evans Thriller and it never disappoints, the usual believable characters are involved.
Richard Armitage brings the story to life with his wonderful ability with different voices, and its a delight to not have loads of bad language and sex scenes.
I thoroughly recommend this writer's novels.

Best Jackman and Evans Book So Far
I loved this book and thought it was the best one in the series so far. Well read by Richard Armitage and as usual with all Joy's books it kept me on my toes with twists and turns all the way through.
