About this listen

From multi-million-copy number one best seller Mark Billingham comes a twisting, unbearably gripping DI Tom Thorne and Nicola Tanner thriller inspired by a dramatic real-life case.

How do you catch a killer who is yet to kill?

We've all heard about the signs: coldness, cruelty, mistreatment of animals. DI Tom Thorne knows the psychological profile of a psychopath all too well, so when pets start disappearing on suburban London streets, he sees a chance to stop a future murderer.

Others are less convinced, so Thorne relies on DI Nicola Tanner to help him solve the case, before the culprit starts hunting people. The journey brings them face to face with a killer who will tear their lives apart.

Another Winner!

With every novel, Mark Billingham's characters develop and grow. His story lines remain contemporary and, although they are always based in the modern world, they are realistic and do not try
too hard to "digital name drop" and I find this refreshing as well.
If you've been a Thorne fan from the start, or just joining the party now, this novel's twists and turns will not disappoint you!

As always another brilliant book

You would think after Listening to the previous 14 books I would finally be able to pick out the killer or the plot.
But no I'm still 2nd guessing to the end and saying out loud “No way how did I miss that”
Another great story Beautifully written with the highs and lows of the characters making it feel real and not fiction

Billingham Scores Again

There’s no one to beat Billingham when it comes to the dark side of London.
As gruesome as ever the story leaves a real ‘bond’ between Thorne and Tanner in terms of what really happened at the denouement and the Epilogue leaves chilling thoughts about the future.

Good story but Mark is not the narrator for his own books.

I always enjoy Thorne's problems and this did not disappoint, but I feel a better narrator would have complimented his series far better.

Mark Billingham delivers again

One of my favourite authors. Mark is an excellent narrator as well as an excellent writer. I enjoyed this book. The characters were believable and the story kept me interested. Can’t wait for his next book.

Another great book

Love the Thorne novels, and this doesn’t disappoint. Genuinely didn’t see the killer reveal coming in this one! What makes this a much more enjoyable listen is that the author is the narrator. I love an audio book when out walking the dog or exercising, so I’ve listened to a fair few audio books. sometimes the narration spoils what is a actually good story, and I’ve ended up buying or downloading the written version instead. However as the author, Mark Billingham knows exactly where emphasis should be, and each character’s “voice” so you are completely engrossed and lost in the story, which is exactly what should happen. I’ve listened to a few of his books now and it’s always a great experience.

Mark Billingham should never give up his day job

loved the story line and the meeting again with familiar characters but Mark Billingham is a poor narrator with a monotone voice and little variation in pace.

The author’s reading really is good and I commend him for it the story weaves between two different plots. Very good
