About this listen

In 1939, a secret airship departed Nazi Germany in the dark of night filled with some of the most influential people of its time.

Its cargo: a complement of rich Jewish families carrying their most valuable possessions. One such item among them was as dangerous as it was priceless.

The airship never reached its destination.

In 2015, Sam Reilly, a marine biologist and wealthy son of shipping mogul James Reilly, discovers a missing clue about the lost airship, and what follows is a violent treasure hunt kept secret by the most powerful men in the world today, driven by their greed and need for that which all are motivated: the opportunity for unlimited power.

Great action adventure introducing Sam Reilly

I was provided with a free copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review.

I have to say that this author is going into my favourites pile immediately. His characters are full on action men and women. They have fun, do amazing escapes from danger, come back from situations which should be lethal and still have time to save the world.

If you love action adventure movies and books along the lines of Clive Cussler, Matthew Reilly et al, then you will love Christopher Cartwright. He knows how to write a great plot and bring in characters that you actually like and want to see succeed.

The story itself has some historical references and some interesting side information about mountain climbing for the true adventurer, using genuine places to bring some life to the story.

I love the characters of Sam Reilly and his best friend Tom, they are like every adventurous man you would ever want to meet, conventional and unconventional at the same time.

I'm looking forward to my next instalment.

Can’t wait to listen to book 2

I loved the beginning of this book but then I got a little bit lost. Kept on listening though and got back into the book quite fast. Loved the rest of the book. Action packed and fast paced can’t wait to listen to book 2

Excellent Book

Great book. Very much reminiscent of the early Clive Cussler books. Been looking for an author to continue these type of books. We now have one. Great reference to historical facts. Great characters. Great narration. Looking forward to the books developing. Great page turner and highly recommended

Can't wait for book 2

I loved the first of the Sam Reilly series from start to finish and I am looking forward to Nook 2. If I were to have any complaint at all it would have nothing to do with the story. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the narrator. He tried his best to intone each character differently but unfortunately when you sound a little like Steve Hawking with an accent on steroids nothing will help. Fortunately the story carried the narrator rather than what is so often the case with the reverse being true.
Definitely recommended.

All your heroes in one story

A well-constructed story which contains all the elements of a rollicking adventure. Great fun altogether!

A Really Thrilling Novel.

From deep underwater to high in the mountains this is a superb thriller. The action starts in Nazi Germany and concludes in the present day. There is mystery, intrigued, a quest, double dealing, adventure and bucket loads of action. The writing is first class, the characters well rounded and believable, an excellent narration adds to the listening enjoyment. I am really looking forward to listening to more in the series.

A good fun adventure

Very much in the vein of an Indian Jones/Dan Brown kind of adventure. The story is somewhat dependant on coincidence and too many times luck saves the day, but the main characters are engaging and the plot is no more far fetched than any other example of this genre. Good escapist fun. The narrator was fine, but a little slow. I bumped the speed up to x1.25 just to suit my own taste. For a first novel, I'm impressed, and keen to listen to the next in the series.
