Summary

Amy Pearson's family is desperately poor - even by the standards of Edwardian Liverpool - but they have each other. Until Amy is torn from her home by her rich aunt, a woman obsessed by religion and snobbery who wants a girl she can mould as she wishes. Clever and pretty, ten-year-old Amy is perfect for her purposes.

It is the beginning of a long journey for Amy, as she desperately searches for the family she lost, and a home where she can be free at last from her aunt's possessive tyranny.

But she will have to endure a forced marriage and a tragic war before she can at last find what she seeks.

Great Story

Loved this book. I have several of Audrey Howards books and this is the first one I've listened to on audio.
I absolutely loved it - the narrator did a fantastic job.
A great book which has you rooting for 'Amy' and hating her Aunt for how evil she is.

A Beautiful Story

I loved this story which was heartwarming, funny, emotional, sad & even scary at times. The Narator brought the characters alive & did all the accents very well.

somewhat unbelievable

i did enjoy this book, but found that after initial great enjoyment the book descended into somewhat hackneyed characters and plots. It was all a bit too perfect with an 'all's well that ends well' plot and somewhat unrounded characters.
