About this listen

When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he's not alone. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade - a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze.

Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there - or what's happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything - even the Grievers, half-machine, half-animal horror that patrol its corridors, to try and find out.

Interesting and satisfying read

Interesting storyline, although slow paced for the first half. There are plenty of questions throughout the novel and more to be answered in the next book. Overall, very entertaining read.

Dissapointed

Could have done so much more with this idea, the sheer amount of swear words (just Becourse you change the actual word the context stays the same) was dreadful, narrator was good and gave the story more depth than there was in the wtiting

Great story (second read)

This is definitely aimed at late-teen early 20s folk. But I am a lover of these kinds of books. I'm 28 and read this for the first time about 5 years ago, and am not than happy to come back and ready it again. The story is gripping, the brutality only adds to the sense of danger throughout. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
I commend the performance with these books, it is easy to get lost in the story and forget its only one person telling it!

A must read after watching the films

My partner showed me the films recently and I fell in love with the world only to discover there’s an entire series.

The way James Dashner describes those opening scenes completely made me love this book instantly,

Being able to build my own picture of the world even after watching the films made this the most enjoyable read I’ve had since the Harry Potter series I completed again. This is a series I could come back to time and time again

Good story. Narration was a bit dodgy.

Listened to this after seeing the movie, it's a good story, but the dodgy irish accent he used for Newt grated on me.

Great plot......for young adults

What made the experience of listening to The Maze Runner the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the idea, but wished it had more depth and content. I felt this series had been written for the younger end of the market; I say this as someone who reads lots of fantasy,(my library proves it).

Who was your favorite character and why?

Newt, because he appeared the most rational, and dare I say, adult.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The actual maze scenes were the most interesting, if predictable.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No emotional reaction other than regretting it was not more adult focused.

Any additional comments?

I thing a young adult, teenager, would enjoy reading this, and the performance.
