About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A novel from Eve Chase, author of The Glass House and The Birdcage.

A glittering family. A Notting Hill house. Step into their secrets...

Notting Hill, London. Lou Parker's famous mother walks out of their pink front door and doesn't return home by midnight, or the midnight after... Looking after her little brother, trying to piece together where their mother might be, Lou ventures into a different world - far from the fancy terraces - filled with ramshackle antique shops, shadowy figures. A place where time seems to have stopped. And Lou must protect her brother. At all costs.
Twenty-one years - 7665 midnights - later. The new owner of a Notting Hill house starts excavating a basement, oblivious to what might lie beneath. While in a writer's Saint-Germain apartment, a mobile phone rings...and the clock starts ticking again.

Sweeping from vibrant London streets to the boulevards of Paris to an old English country house, The Midnight Hour is a story about the dark secrets hidden within a golden family - and a woman desperately trying to turn back the hands of time before it's too late.

Mesmerising - a book you want to race back to (Lisa Jewell)
Moody, evocative, with a dream-like quality no other author can master (Gillian McAllister, bestselling author of Just Another Missing Person)
A wonderful twisty novel of family and secrets — the perfect summer read (Kate Morton)
Evocative, beautifully written and absolutely gripping, The Midnight Hour is sensational - her best yet (Rosie Walsh, bestselling author of The Man Who Didn’t Call)
An engrossing, atmospheric and beautifully written story of a woman trying to turn back the hands of time. I always love an Eve Chase, but this is my favourite so far (Anna Mazzola, author of The Clockwork Girl)
An exquisitely-written, immersive mystery full of loss and longing and boho glamour with a sharp undercurrent of darkness. Brings back to life a Notting Hill that has long since disappeared (Tammy Cohen)

I loved this audio book that took me a few chapters to really get involved with the story but then found difficult to stop listening.

This works well as an audiobook, as the narration is so well done. As a teenager in the 90s, I could relate to the depiction of late 90s Notting Hill. Also enjoyed the unravelling of the mystery, even if various characters frustrated me at times by their incredibly poor choices!

Fabulous narration, interesting mystery.

Loved this book. Didn't want it to end. Beautiful writing and a great story with three-dimensional characters at its heart. Surprising little twists breadcrumbed through the plot.

Kate Morton meets Lisa Jewell

I loved the story and the way it was written was beautiful. I got used to the female narrator but the way she paused in the wrong places was annoying. I preferred the narrator of the glass house.

The intricately evocative language was a work of literary genius

Excellent

The initial premis was engaging for the first half and when that became thread bare it could no longer sustain the truly selfish brats that give the middle class a bad name. I might have appreciated the mawkish romance in my teens but maturity can see this nonsense for what it is. However, and this a big However, the narrator was superb and will look out other books she as read.

One for the young at heart.

A good story which flows well all through. Narrator varies her voice for different characters which makes it much easier to listen to. Characters are fairly realistic.
I definitely recommend for a straightforward read/listen.

Nicely written and narrated
