Unbelievable, predictable and very drawn out. Seen to take an eternity to reach any conclusion. Not his best work

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I bought it by mistake thinking it was non fiction but I soon got into the story and I enjoyed the new perspective

I do like Michael Wood's stories and I think this is up there as one of my favourites. It has some strong and interesting characters and moves at a good pace. I couldn't stop listening and didn't want it to end! I also liked the cheeky reference to the "prolific serial killer Stuart Mills." Initially I was wary of the serial killer dad element as it's been done before but here I feel it was used in a different way and was, of course, essential to the plot. I have given the narration just 4 stars as despite thinking the narrator did an excellent job, there were quite a few unnecessary and possibly inadvertent, pauses which interfered with the pace of the narrative. But that's just me being very picky! I actually think this narrator would also have been a good match for the Matilda Dark series, as I think Stephanie Beattie's narration, while beautifully done, ages the character a bit. Anyway, back to this story- I can't wait for the next!

Really good story

what a gripping story of Olivia winter. having to face her horrific past, the father who murdered her mum and sister. having left Olivia for dead. Olivia reluctantly helps the police after her best friend is murdered. can the clues lie in the past? can her evil father help her? I was hooked , addicted to this book. Micheal Wood did not fail again. a gem

Good story, good characters, wasn’t predictable, I liked it.

Only thing that annoyed me was the whole storyline with the neighbour. Why write a story where the strong capable female feels guilt and blame for the actions of a would-be rap1st and excuses his behaviour? Pathetic element to the story playing into stereotypes - a man does bad things because of the actions of a woman. It was disappointing that the author didn’t write a positive line where she was empowered to look after her own safety instead of prioritising the feelings of a young man she barely knows. And then feel so much guilt about the outcome she wants to defend him in court wth!!

I liked it

I'm capable of suspending belief for entertainment but so many things happened that under UK law would never have been allowed to happen.

Not always very believable but a decent crime story. Probably a little too long for what it all amounted to

Good narrator and strong main character
