Summary
Develop a new understanding of neurodivergence with this thoughtful exploration of the human mind from a bestselling author and psychologist.
From ADHD and dyslexia to autism, the number of diagnosis categories listed by the American Psychiatric Association has tripled in the last fifty years. With so many people affected, it is time to revisit our perceptions of people with disabilities.
Bestselling author, psychologist, and educator Thomas Armstrong illuminates a new understanding of neuropsychological disorders. He argues that if they are a part of the natural diversity of the human brain, they cannot simply be defined as illnesses. Armstrong explores the evolutionary advantages, special skills, and other positive dimensions of these conditions.
A manifesto as well as a keenly intelligent look at "disability," The Power of Neurodiversity is a must for parents, teachers, and anyone who is looking to learn more about neurodivergence.
Critic reviews
“Parents of children who have been diagnosed as belonging to one of these groups and adults who have been living with any of these labels will find positive affirmation and encouraging advice on how to see their brain’s wiring as an asset rather than a liability.” (New York Journal of Books)

Celebration of ND
Such a positive look at differences in neurology. The idea of niche construction is particularly interesting

Clear and Informative
Thomas Armstrong has written a very useful book on the power of Neurodiversity for anyone wishing to know more about this subject without being bombarded with jargon and science, what Thomas has written bridges both science and social fields to bring us a well balanced and informative understanding of the struggles neurodiverse people face and also ways i which the need not if adopted by individuals and society as a whole.

Absolutely love this
It say what should be obvious to us, but we fail as a western civilisation we’ve lost what other cultures still celebrate. An a stark warning of neglect and where ignorance could lead us.

Excellent book on Neurodiversity
As a parent to a child in the autism spectrum, I found this book really good. It opened my eyes to a world of possibilities for my son as well as respect and appreciation for neurodiversity. Excellent book!

Interesting but …
There are some very interesting thoughts in this book and it does make one realise that we should see the person first and not the disorder. However, it felt a bit over-romanisation of some deep and debilitating difficulties.
